Price Beat Travel, Anyone Used Them?

Has anyone used Price Beat Travel?

I need four (3 adult, 1 child) Xmas flights to Toronto (from Perth) and the flights are $10.5k from Cathay, $9.4k from BYOjet but under $9k from Price Beat.

They get bad reviews for rudeness and things like that, but if I know the flights I want and double-check everything, then is there much that can go seriously wrong?

I found them via Kayak, which lists dozens of randomly named travel agents that I've never heard of - is there any way of telling which are legit?

  • "they get bad reviews"? what more guidance do you want?????

    • I'm not going to call them up, so their phone nanner is largely irrelevant to me.

If the bad reviews said "they ripped me off and sold me tickets to the wrong city" then sure, no go.

But since the bad reviews basically say "XX wasn't nice to me on the phone", then I'll risk it provided they actually provide the right tickets at the advertised price.

  • +1

Just price match at flight centre, get physical tickets and someone to blame if it goes pear-shaped

    • So one of the agents that comes up often towards the top of the SkyScanner lists etc is BYOjet.

But BYOjet appears to be majority-owned by Flight Centre.

So can I go to FC and say, "here's the quote from your subsidiary, can you beat it"?

      • Ask them…?

        • +2

Tested it today.. they matched the lower price with no argument or anything.

        • @GordonR: great! Just wonder who did you call? BYOjet or Flight Centre ? Did they match the lowest price found on IWantThatFlight or kayak?

        • @SumTingRon:

Took my computer with the BYOjet quote on it to a physical Flight Centre.

The agent took all my details, entered them into the BYOjet site right up to the point of payment (to get the exact amount including any credit card fees etc) and then matched that price minus $4.

        • @GordonR: thanks for the info ;)

  • Avoid Price Beat Travel.
I used them twice, once they messed with wheelchair requirement and my parents had to walk/rush at Thailand airport. Second time they put a ticket on hold for me but even after couple of reminders and emails from my side they forgot to make the payment. They itinerary lapsed and I had to buy an expensive ticket at last moment. Their phone support is very unprofessional. They who messed my last ticket never came on phone to give a valid excuse.
In the nutshell, simply avoid them.

  • I just booked through them without checking and am concerned they may be a scam site - can someone confirm otherwise? I havent been able to find enough legitimate reviews. Their Google reviews just seem like they have hired a whole lot of people from India to give them positive reviews (saw this on Silicon Valley).

Also they keep telling me that payment has been made but its not showing up when I check my bank account.

They are asking for a copy of my drivers license and passport - is this normal?

Can someone who has used them confirm that they were able to get onto the actual flights?

  • I booked a ticket with these guys a couple of days ago. Credit card didn't get deducted. Then today they came back to me claiming that card was denied. I tried to call them twice, both not being able to resolve anything (they got super heavy Indian accent too).
Then I got an email from them (sent from a Gmail address!!! ), linking to a payment site which doesn't work, also they asked for a scan copy of my driver licence.
The whole thing is super sketchy.

    • Hopefully this will help you sleep a bit better. I just got the e-tickets from them and have checked the reference number on the Singapore Airlines website and have confirmed that the tickets were actually booked. Also a few days delayed but my payment finally showed up in my bank statements.

      • So, did you have to send them copy of your passport, driver's license and credit card to get etickets? I'm having issues getting my tickets from this company and they have already charged my credit card.

    • So any updates on this? Did you end up making payment through that link?
This just happened to me, except they called me to say they'll send a link to pay since they couldn't see any record of my online payment through their system. But, I haven't received their email link yet and I checked my card history and it still hasn't got any record that I've paid.

      • I managed to call them later and got through to a rep, basically my ticket (which they confirmed before) was no longer available, and has gone up in price. They tried to sell another ticket to me (different date) and I said no.
Never gonna book through them again.

  • Well I booked through them for Japan couple weeks back. They're operating direct out of India, definitely not from Sydney.
Gave them my licence, got my etickets and they deducted the money.
Funny thing is a week later I got a refund, and the tickets are valid according to singapore air website. Wat do.

    • How long did they take to give you the e-ticket after you gave them your driver license?

      • +1

Less than a day. But I personally wouldn't book thru them again.

    • I'm hoping to get free tickets too then, when are you flying? Hope you dont have issues.

      • October November,so see how we go.

        • update please…

  • I wish I had seen this topic before purchasing 4 air tickets to Japan a couple hours ago. When I was at the payment page, it showed me 0% fee when paying with Visa credit. The total amount to be paid also showed zero credit card charge but after I confirmed the payment, it showed that I had been charged 2% credit card fee. I complained to their customer service and they just apologised and admited that the website was wrong to show zero fee with Visa credit when in fact it should be 2%. I felt that I was cheated. If I had known that I would be charged 2% CC fee, I would have selected other payment option (debit card). Is this something that I could complain to ACCC to get the fee refunded? Now I am still waiting for the tickets to be issued after giving them my driver license and passport details.

  • Just booked with them (from Momondo so assumed they were legit). I bookd at 11.15pm on a Saturday night, had a call straight away from a 'Sydney' number asking for proof of ID to be emailed. All very odd, going along with it for now as I assume my card has been charged. It will be a pain to freeze card and claim fraudulent activity.

I'm not full of confidence right now though! Also annoyed at the 'surprise' 2% for VISa Credit like the person above. This seems like a bit of a joke operation.

  • I have been told by flight centre that they will only price match for flights originating in Australia so they would not match a domestic US flight.

  • Do not use Prices Beat Travel. It is a scam. They call you demanding more money for your flight for some bogus reason. When I refused they changed their story and told me my original payment was declined. I believe they delay payment on purpose, say the price has gone up in order to pocket the extra money from the customer. I cancelled my booking and went with flight centre.

  • Big time scammers, never book anything with them!
Have an ongoing complaint against them with the Department of Fair Trading - be very very careful of them and save your money and mental peace.
They cancelled my flight tickets (twice) without my consent or knowledge after I had made full payment. They did not even inform me - I found out myself via airline 10 days before my departure when I was unable to find my booking number on their website.
Their travel agents (Tania Jain, Chris, Jodi) cook up a new story every time i confront them and are highly unprofessional.
Caused me so much mental harassment, trauma and inconvenience over calls and I am being forced to book different flight tickets and reschedule my itinerary now because of their unprofessionalism - and this travel is for my wedding (imagine the hassle they have put me through)

  • I'm really not sure why people would use these sites. If you don't want to book directly through the airline, just get your price from an Australian based site, screen shot it and go the Flight Centre. Not saying I agree with Flight Centre ethics, but for peace of mind, being able to actually contact your agent and being able to meet with them face to face why wouldn't you? Obviously no good if the flights aren't originating in Australia though as yoyo6 pointed out.

    • I just called Flight Centre asking them to beat a fare I found on Price Beat Travel but I was told they don't match online travel agents.

Their website is pretty misleading, excerpt below:

      Q. Who will Flight Centre accept airfare quotes from?
      A. Other Australian travel agencies, airlines and other Australian registered businesses. The quote must be printed on the competitor’s letterhead or, if from a competitor website, must be printed and clearly show the website and must also be at the final payment stage.

      No exclusions listed.

I might just have to book on Price Beat Travel but these comments are worrying.

      • They stopped doing it in December.

        • Yeah I just spoke to someone else - they've gotten rid of the price beat altogether.

  • OTA fares are not live and may not be available. T&C's are different to airline, charges may be higher.

  • Last night I booked a business class flight from Sydney to Las Vegas with them. I received this email message from them:
"As per Airline few new updates we need any kind of Australian Address Proof of yours i.e. (License, Electricity bill , Utility bill, Students Card etc). So kindly send us the any kind of Address proof and also the passport copies. Please provide us this documents so that we can forward it to airline" The airline was Hawaiian Airlines which do not require any sort of proof of address - I believe they gather all your private information and on sell it to third parties.

I then called the number at the bottom of the email and he told me that the payment didn't go through and to pay manually using bPoint which I proceeded to do and he said he would send the confirmation within 15 minutes.

After 30 minutes he calls me and said actually only half of the leg is in business and the other half is in economy, I told him that is unacceptable as I booked a business class flight. He said let me figure it out and I will call you back. I then researched this company and found them had scammed others so I quickly called back and asked for a refund which the attendant said he would process.

I am still waiting for the refund and have not heard back from them.

  • DO NOT BUY TICKETS FROM THEM. I bought ticket from them pre-COVID and despite the Airline confirming 100% refund to me, they haven't refunded me anything. Its been 6 months and I am still trying to get my money back.
