Hi guys,
Just doing my tax return and looking at the pre-filled info for Medicare Levy Surcharge.
I've switched PHI twice during the year, including one time when I pre-paid one year's premiums in advance.
In that case, I only stayed for four months before transferring again.
I applied for the Tier 1 rebate, and ended up falling into Tier 2, meaning I have to pay extra.
Do I have to adjust the pre-fill information for the amount that I received back as a refund? Otherwise I'm paying slightly more back because my total premium paid for the year are inflated by the pre-fill info.
Thanks
Sounds complicated! The prefill information should match the information exactly shown on your PHI tax statements. If something is wrong on those statements contact whichever health fund and get them to amend it and reissue it. Once you enter the information exactly as supplied by the health fund(s) the actual rebates will be calculated and if you owe money towards this it will come out of any tax refund or you will issued with a tax bill.
Tldr; Don't just change prefill information without contacting your health funds first
