  • 4K video editing will need at least 16gb ram… What's the budget?

    • I can spend up to $1500

  • $1000

  • A 'basic' laptop is going to really struggle with 4K video editing. You're going to want at least a quad-core laptop with dedicated graphics and 16GB RAM, and a screen that's capable of higher than FHD resolution. In short, you need a gaming laptop or a high-end business-grade machine.

IMO your budget is too low for a laptop with the required specs to do a decent job - you need around $1800 minimum for this task if you're buying new. I suggest looking for used gaming machines, or perhaps a desktop with suitable specs if you don't need the portability.

    • looks like i need to consider my budget, any suggestion /links for brand new laptop with that specs.

I have the older version of that laptop. It's pretty decent for a budget gaming machine, and this model has good enough specs for what you need, with one exception - the screen is only 1080p and the colours are mediocre. Not great for viewing your glorious 4K footage.

My suggestion would be to pick up a refurbished XPS 15 from the Dell Factory Outlet. They have slightly higher specs to the Inspiron, much better build quality, faster NVMe storage, lower weight and the option of an excellent 4K screen that can display your footage at native resolution. Currently there's 2 or 3 available for around $1800, which is excellent value considering new price is about $2500.

Another alternative around the same price is the Metabox N850HJ, which you can option with 4K screen for around $1850, including Windows and a decent sized HDD (which are not in the base price).

Bought Dell 15 9560 from DFO awhile ago,
    4k touch screen
    i7-7700HQ
    16 GB RAM
    500 GB SSD
    $1900
downloaded Adobe Premiere CC 2018, tried to run its pre-edited example video but video was lagging then in months screen started to flicker with horizontal lines.
complaint Dell about it, they changed screen and main board , since then everything works perfect, no lagging while editing video at all.

    Happy with the Purchase :)

    • Good job OP I'm happy for you.

      • Thanks
