      Trying too hard now

    • +1

You should be hired by the Jeenee's marketing department.

  • +1

Seriously never heard of them before.

    What network do they use?

    • +2

      Optus

      • +1

        4G or 4G plus?

        • Anyone?

        • +6

I use their network and I get 4G+

        • +1

          @gnrcampos:

          Plus

        • +1

          @suicine94:

Does any Optus re-seller only use part of the Optus 4G service ( non plus, whatever that means, maybe no B28/700mHz band support or slower speeds ??? )

        • -1

          @ozhunter68:

          I believe Vaya Mobile doesn't use 4G+. Only 4G.

        • @Tuttorix:

Thanks for response. What exactly is the difference then?

        • +2

          @ozhunter68:

Generally the speed of 4G+ is theoretically limited at 90Mb/s, whereas 4G is theoretically limited at 60Mb/s. The difference is noticeable when loading something such as OzBargain or anything resource intensive.

        • @Tuttorix: hows international roaming and intnal calls?

        • @Tuttorix:

Thanks again for good info. Where I live ( hilly semi regional area ) the speeds are not as important as getting any signal full stop. For me here, having the right bands for the particular mHz towers and good hardware to receive signal is most important.

I thought that maybe the diff between Optus 4G and 4G+ was something similar to what Telstra was doing to differentiate, or should I say prioritise their network from other wholesale providers such as Telechoice/Aldi Kogan ( before they swapped to Voda ) etc. where they only offered some of their regional/rural 850mHz 3G ( old NextG ) towers as well as capping the speed of 4G too.

As long as the 4G does not leave out the B28 700mHz towers for me that is the main thing, as that would really limit my reception, let alone speeds. As long as I can stream YouTube ok I'm happy. To get that I usually need hardware to receive B5/850mHz for Vodafone and B28 for Telstra and Optus.

I also have to have the right phone with good antenna pick up to be able to get decent reception and speeds. I have a newish Sony XA that has all band support, but really bad at picking up signal, on the other hand a cheaper Huawei Y6 Elite works a treat. Portable Wifi routers with antenna plugged in work even better. I am not even living far in the countryside, only 1 Klm from the beach and half hour South of Coolangatta, just a bit hilly here and a bit spread out.

        • @melfes:

Haven't had an issue using international calling to Vietnam and Singapore, connection is pretty stable and the costs are all laid out in the "critical information summary", sorry I don't have it off the top of my head. As for roaming, I think the cost was quite a bit and it was noticeably slower than in Australia however it was nowhere near as bad as 3G speeds.

        • @ozhunter68:
          @Tuttorix:

          I have Vaya and I get 4G+

          Perth fwiw

        • @ozhunter68: You would be a little nonplussed, yes?

        • @Gershom:

Haha,…nonplussed, could say that sometimes. I suppose it depends on what defines 4G+ I suppose, outright speeds or getting a B28/700mHz signal.

On top of some hills around here it can be good, then in valley little or no signal, let alone super speeds, all 3 Telcos :-)

    • +4

      Optus.
Started out as a not for profit, then turned into for-profit. From the other comments on Ozb, their service is amazing.

      • +2

Whenever i contact them via Facebook private message, they've been great!

        • +7

great customer service with australian based call centre

        • Wow, they sound pretty great

      • +2

Yeah I was on them before I changed to Vayer (bc of price) - They were amazing and having local call centres that actually are helpful was a great feeling - I miss it :P

      • can confirm, using them for home internet because of (profanity) nbn

good customer support, easy to get started. their switch to not-for-profit hasn't changed their services in any way (from what I can tell)

      • It doesn’t apply to me because I’m an Apple Music man, but do these plans include unmetered Spotify like with Optus’ usual offer?

      • Not for profit telco? How did that work?

        • Their profits went straight to some charity.
So I guess it was a charity owned telco.

The below excerpt is available from here
          Jeenee about us page

Jeenee Mobile was conceived by Community Connections Australia, a not for profit disability service provider that has been helping people living with disability enjoy active and visible lives in the community for more than 28 years. Community Connections Australia saw an opportunity for people to connect with those around them - their friends, families, carers and the organisations that provide support - through mobile technology. And so the Jeenee Mobile idea was born.

    Something to be aware of:

What happens if I go over my data allowance?

All of our latest plans (launched in August 2017) include automatic Top Ups in which extra data will be added automatically once you reach your allowance . This means you can keep using your service even if you go over your allowance, without having to call us and manually add extra packs to your service. The size and cost of the top up, as well as the maximum number of top ups that can be added per month depends on your plan. You can log in to MyJeeneeMobile to view plan-specific details about top ups for each service you have with us.

If you choose, you can turn off top ups at any time, either online or by calling us. If you choose to turn top ups off, your usage will be restricted once you reach 100% of your initial allowance for voice, data or SMS. Please keep in mind that this restriction is subject to a network delay of up to 24 hours, and is not guaranteed to bar exactly on your limit. Any excess you've used over your limit will be charged at the applicable rate, as found in your plan's CIS.

If you've signed up for a plan after August 2017, your plan will already have top ups enabled by default. Plans released before this can't have top ups applied to them. For details of excess data charges on older plans - please see the relevant CIS. If you are on an older plan and want to use top ups, you'll need to change to one of our more recent plans.

    • +3

Hmm, the second term you quoted appears to say that if you have barred top ups, you will still be charged for whatever data you went over by before the system cut you off. Partly defeats the point doesn't it?

      • +7

I think most (all?) MVNOs are similar in that way. I always set a (conservative) data limit & warning in my phone to be sure.

    • Auto top ups are great as long as the top up pricing stays the same. Beats going over and getting charged excess rates.

    • -2

So if you reach the data quota, you can't call and SMS as well?

      • +1

Sorry, why would you think that? Only your data would be barred

        • +1

          probably got confused cos of

If you choose to turn top ups off, your usage will be restricted once you reach 100% of your initial allowance for voice, data or SMS.

but all plans are unlimited calls and text anyway

        • @CVonC: Yes, because of that. The sentence is ambiguous.

        • @CVonC: still no reason to be confused IMO, but I see how it happened now

  • I was with them for about a year until two months ago. Their online customer service was pretty slow, sometimes taking the whole week to get back to anything. Would go back though, normally well priced

  • +5

Title and description should include "$9.90 per month". The way it is written, I understood it as $9.90 for 12 months.

    • Thanks. Fixed :-)

  • +2

Better to go with ovo, no contract

    • its not unlimited calls though

    • No contract here too if you don't need as much data :)

    • +2

I like that Ovo do not automatically charge you if you go over your data allowance. Jeenee's CS states they will charge you $13 for an extra GB. But going by a comment above, you may be able to stop auto topups?

    • +2

Exetel mobile better again IMO. $10/month for month to month, same data, more call value, global roaming enabled by default ($20 add-on for Ovo and no available at all for Jeenee).

      • +1

Exetel do look good. No activation fee and looking specifically at their 1.5GB plan, they also include free SMS/MMS to international numbers on their 12 month plan. I can't work out if it is included in their 1 month plan however, I guess not.

I also can't see if you can turn off auto top up for data.

  • +3

I've just found Spintel have a plan slightly cheaper and no contract. Not sure what their service is like though https://www.spintel.net.au/products/mobile

    • +1

Watch out for that Spintel $10 SIM activation fee..

      • +2

Jeenee have a $10 set up fee

        • I just signed up, there was no setup fee.

    • +3

I found SpinTel customer service to be an absolute nightmare to deal with.

It was obvious their overseas staff weren't well trained, so they frequently lied and made stuff up. I started recording all the support calls as proof and to help me remember everything for the TIO. I wish it was legal to share those call recordings because it is some of the funniest bad service I've ever experienced - so many contradictions and lies.

    • +4

I had to take Spintel to the TIO to get a refund on my NBN service, and I had to speak to Westpac to stop paying the credit card charges from Spintel after I cancelled. They were horrific, had my wife in tears. I despise them. (Other than that, the service never worked!).

  • +3

I can vouch for Jeenee, always upfront, local customer service. Good value plans too!

  • I'm on the $35 per month no contract plan. It's always been very good.

Does anyone know if I will just roll over to using the 10gb or do I have to call for the switch?

    • Good question. I'd also like to know this.

    • Don't think so - it seems that the older plans would remain at the older data allocation.
"Any plans launched prior to August 2017 do NOT qualify for Auto Data Bump-Ups"

    • Call and switch or login on the site and there's a change plan option. They let me switch from the $35 8gb to their EOFY promotional $35 10gb even though it was supposed to be for new customers only.

      • +2

Yeah I did it online just now, very simple to do

  • Aren't the 9.90 and 14.90 plans the same as Bendigo Bank Telco but slightly more expensive?

  • +1

Only the 12mth $9.90 seems worth it otherwise Kogan is cheaper across the board with their 30% off if Vodafone reception is ok for you.

    • +6

This one helps people, other than the shareholders.

    • Are you sure Kogan is still 30% off?

  • In the past, they didn't allow existing customers to swap over to their plans on promotion. However, I understand these aren't promotion plans but new pricing? I can't see from their T&C if existing customers can/cannot swap over. Can someone confirm whether existing customers can swap to these plans and any upfront cost in doing so?

    • The CIS says there's a $10 set-up fee. Doesn't say there's an exclusion for existing customers, so it might cost $10 to switch, at worst.

    • +1

I can see the new plans appearing in the Change Plan option.

    • +1

I have just upgraded and when you select the new plan there is no set up fee

  • +1

That's great. When my Vaya contract expires I will make the switch back to Jenee.

    • I'm doing the same thing soon.

  • $10 set up fee and $1 bpay fee each month if you don't direct deposit.

    • +2

I pay with credit card via website, no fee.

      • Can you automate the payment on their website, or do you make it manually each bill period?

        • +1

They say there's an option for auto-payment, but I can't see it at the moment. (Maybe I already set it up and they just don't have a web option to delete? Dunno)

    • Yes, so if you factor in the setup fee then the actual cost is $10.73 per month.

  • Whats the cost after 12months? Does it roll on month by month then?

  • I ported my whole family to Jeenee's 9.90 plan for its Jeenee-to-Jeenee free calls among my family members.
With the new 9.90 plan, it comes with unlimited calls (even better).
The only down side is its almost non-existence support.
My query from 3 weeks ago hasn't been replied yet

  • Does 1 month contract mean month to month? Or does it mean for only 1 month. Also, if i'm on an existing Jeenee plan can I swap or nah?

    • +1

I am on existing and just swapped. So yeah

Pretty sure 1 month is just 1 month at a time. I just swapped to the $25 12 month getting 6gb data from the $25 for 12 months getting 2.5gb of data. Yay

  • +6

For low-moderate use, it may be a better option to go with Amaysim's Groupon deal (https://m.groupon.com.au/deals/gg-amaysim-2-8, preferably with a 10% off code when available) in the meanwhile. You'll get 2 GB/28 days for around 5.5 months (6 X 28d) for $39 total (or less with coupon).

  • For people with high use, Optus has a pretty damn good online deal going on at the moment

    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/phones/sim-only?SID=con:…

$40 /m. 15gb data, unlimited calls and text. spotify and google music are unlimited and does not impact the 15gb data.

  • Thanks! I can save another $5 a month and get 2GB extra. Every dollar saved helps!

  • +1

how much does it cost to port my number over from aldimobile?

  • -2

All our plans are month to month unless otherwise stated, and must be paid in advance by direct debit only!
That alone has me cringing!, $10.00 set up fee?…for what?, too many unknowns here, their international rates
    are alarming.

    • -1

Paranoid - characterised by or suffering from the mental condition of paranoia.

  • Been a Jeenee customer now for almost a year, never had any issues. They might take a day or two to process payments (although it seems they do direct debit now). but apart from that great friendly service.

  • -1

Anyone knows good deal for data only plan? please let me know. thanks

  • Awesome deal. Thanks OP

  • +1

how easy is it to come across from someone else? Im with TPG and paying $20 a month for less so am thinking about coming across, will they do all the work if i sign up (close old account etc) or do i have to do that?

    • I would guess if your not on prepay with TPG you will need to call and cancel once you get service.

    • +1

I came across from TPG a while ago to Jeenee. They do all the work/porting of number for you. It is easy peasy

  • I switched to them 2 weeks ago. not bad so far, there is no way to call them on weekends! "temporary as they said!".
My plan doesn't exist anymore but I found this one to get the best deal: https://www.spintel.net.au/products/mobile

  • I have been a Jeenee customer for nearly a year now and am really happy with their service. We have 3 mobile plans with them and thanks for posting this - have just upgraded our plans. Yay.

  • thanks OP
    ordered

  • Been a Jeenee customer for 3 years now and their service and phone support has been good. I'd already downgraded my plan a year ago as I didn't use much data when not travelling but these plans have more data and calls for less money. So updated plan.

  • +1

Anyone has any idea about their international calls?

  • +1

Take note if you go overseas often. You can't suspend your service with Jeenee mobile when going on holidays. OVO lets you suspend.

Jeenee Mobile does not have the facilities to suspend a service. If you are travelling overseas, we can downgrade you to the lowest plan available so you will pay the minimum amount possible while you are away.

  • -1

$10 setup fee kills the deal.
