American Express Platinum - Previous Card Holder

Hello Ozbargain community.

Same old question "Will I get the points if I have an existing AMEX"

Although, I was wondering if this would work and if anyone has experienced this before. I recently applied for a new American Express Platinum card (Not upgrade) from my Qantas Premium card.

The welcome pack came today, and I applied during the offer of 100K membership points for new customers.

My question is, if I activate my card with a NEW American Express online account, will I be credited the membership points or will it be the same as adding the card to my existing online account.

I don't believe this has been asked before and would love to know.

    Why don't you do the obvious - ASK AMEX DIRECTLY?

      The answer was an obvious no, and quoted the terms.

      Hoping this was a way around them.

    This used to be a yes as Platinum is a charge card and Qantas is a credit card.

    But under current terms it seems like quite a clear no:

    Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for this offer.

    I don't see a distinction between adding it to an existing account or applying for a new one.

    Worked last year for me, but I applied for the plat with a different email address and setup a different online services username and password. Got the points.
