How to Actually Use The Transport Concession Card on The Metro in SA?

I have recently applied for, and received a Transport concession Card.
I also have a regular Metrocard which has been recently recharged.

How does one use the concession card on the actual travel- for e.g. on the metro Bus?

It doesn't have a magnetic strip; so can't charge it with an amount and electronically validate on the bus.
It seems just an ID card proving I'm eligible for such concession travel.
Do I just ask the driver for a "Transport Concession Card" lower fare?
And, so do I always validate with a paper ticket bought on the spot?

The SA concessions portal helpfully just says:
"You must carry your Transport Concession Card when travelling on a concession fare and present it on request.
Your Transport Concession Card can only be used by you and is not transferable to others."

Is there a way to use the above-mentioned MetroCard to electronically validate, yet pay the concession amount?
And, can anyone advice how much the concession rates are?

All comments appreciated.

  • If it's anything like Myki in Victoria you need to buy a new swipe card of the concession variety, and then carry your actual concession card with you as proof.

    Hi,

You can't actually use a Regular MetroCard for a Concession Fare.

You can buy a GREEN (Concession) MetroCard for $3.50 that will allow you to use it in conjunction with the Concession Pass you have obtained.
    See: https://adelaidemetro.com.au/Tickets/Metrocard/Getting-a-met…

Otherwise, just present the Concession Pass on Board and ask for a Concession Ticket, be it a 2hr Ticket for $2.70 Peak*
*Before 9.01am and after 3:00pm weekdays
    All day Saturday)

    or 2hr Ticket for $1.40 Off-Peak**
**Monday to Friday 9:01am to 3:00pm
All day Sunday and public holidays)

or a Concession Day Ticket ($5.10)

If you are using a Train which has a Ticket Vending Unit on Board, buy a Concession Ticket and have the Concession Pass on your person for inspection if required.

    MetroCard Fares are: $1.79 Peak, $0.96 Off-Peak
after buying Conc. Metrocard for $3.50

    or top-up with a 28 day pass for $62.20. https://adelaidemetro.com.au/28-Day-Pass/Fare-Comparisons

If you visit Adelaide Metro (Cnr. King William & Currie Sts) maybe they will swap the Credit from the MetroCard onto a Green Metro Card for you? Worth asking. :+)

Thanks indeed holdenmg for the detailed answer.
You have clarified all my questions on this matter.

Will approach Adelaide Metro and give the possibility of credit swap a whirl.

      Much appreciated.

      • The above price info is correct AFAIK however there are also further options:

You can buy reduced cost fares with a 28 day time limit: I'm assuming this means on a seperate metro card but it might not be. Basically this works out cheaper if you do a typical commute such as 2 trips a day 5 days a week.

And there are also day pass tickets which have a flat cost for 1 days unlimited use: these can be cheaper than using metro cards if you plan on doing a lot of trips in one day.

Sorry I haven't got the figures on those fares but it's pretty easy to work out if and when it's cheaper.
