Sorry for the long text in advance.
Currently I have -AU$5100 and US$3900 on my QantasCash account and I can’t get any resolution with QantasCash Negative Balance Team.
Below explains roughly what happened:
Early May I had around AU$550 in QantasCash which I wanted to use all up. So I decided to buy digital goods (in USD) until I got a message saying insufficient funds and I couldn’t buy anymore. My thought was as this is a prepaid card I should be able to keep buying until there was nothing left in the card.
When I checked balance on the Card it showed AU$0 but the amount of transaction in USD seemed to exceed what I had in the card originally. I contacted the seller who assured me all the transaction went through fine and all my digital contents were good to use. So I contacted QantasCash to find out what is going on and they tell me there is negative Balance of ~AU$5650 and they were going to get negative Balance Team to have a look.
In the meanwhile I contacted the seller again to cancel some of the bigger transactions and within few days I got a refund of US$3900 in to the QantasCash account.
Mid May I contact QantasCash again to find out what is happening and what do I do with this US$3900. Got told all they can do is convert this amount back into AUD as per QantasCash rates to which I said don’t convert anything unless it is same as what I paid for. Still no response from Negative Balance Team at this point.
End of May I saw some extra transactions have been reversed and corresponding digital contents got removed from my account and received temporary ban on site. (That amount reserved were AU$568.51 even though AU$633.06 was what was debited initially which is around 10%). Initially I thought maybe getting a refund from seller was the wrong thing to do but seeing this made me realise if I didn’t do that I would have lost further AU$500 for nothing.
Have been ringing every week to find out what is happening with negative balance.
When I rang 2 weeks ago I was told there was a note from negative balance team saying they cannot give me the rate I had paid for. So I have sent an email to qantasrecoveries to explain my situation but no response so far.
I know I may be partly responsible not knowing that a Reloadable Debit Card can go to negative balance. But it just seems unfair I have to lose so much money because of stupid QantasCash rates for a transaction reversal and a refund. (I always thought for a refund/reversal you get the same amount back as what you paid for)
Overall all transactions apart from US$140 got refunded or reversed in which case I should have around AU$370 in the account. However even if I convert USD to AUD I will still end up with negative balance from what QantasCash is proposing.
I have not received any email or communication from the Negative Balance Team at all from the beginning and apparently it is not possible to contact them in any form which is making this process more difficult.
So I just want to know what my options are and what I can do to minimise my losses.
Ideally I want to be able to get back the difference of AU$633.06 - AU$568.51 and get US$3900 converted to AU$5504.80 (Which is amount debited for US$3900 worth of transactions)
Or at the minimum get the difference of AU$633.06 - AU$568.51 back as I didn’t allow reversal of transaction especially at that rate.
Edit 1: To be clear whatever I need to pay back I plan on paying back in AUD and keep the USD so I can use it to buy the digital goods again. The real problem is that I have not had any contact with Negative Balance Team even telling how much I owe exactly or whether I need to pay anything back. I actually can't see negative balance on the account so I don't know the exact amount.
How/WHY did you end up spending over $5k aud when you knew that you had around $500 on the card?
Just get them to convert it at whatever rate is going, pay the difference and move on. It's your own fault that it happened, learn from it - don't spend money you don't have
