Dropbox Offering Double Referral Credits for Users with .edu Email Addresses (Now up to 16GB)

Hello fellow ozbargainers,

I'm sure many of you have used or at least know of the Dropbox file synchronization/backup service. For those of you who don't know, Dropbox is a simple online virtual storage utility that allows you to backup and make your files accessible from almost anywhere. I have been a happy Dropbox user and became even happier since recently I found out that they are now offering double referral credits (250MB -> 500MB per referral) for users with educational email addresses.

This works for current Dropbox users as signing up directly using a .edu email addresses is not required. Just log on to the link below and add your .edu email address on Dropbox. Once they verify it you will notice an increase (up to 16GB) in the space you have (from the doubling of referral bonus space you had previously obtained).

For those who don't have an educational email addresses, it may be worthwhile get one here: http://www.australia.edu/
However, I'm not 100% sure that this email would also be valid as I haven't tried myself.

    Hi! Signed up through your referral, but I don't really understand what you said about .edu email addresses.

    I signed up using my student email account. Was I meant to use another account and refer my student account? Thanks!

      You would have to have referred others to use dropbox to gain benefits from the edu emails.

      For example:

      Previously my account gave me 4GB space which was made up of 2GB free + 250MBx8 referral bonuses.
      After verifying my educational email I now get 500MB for each referral which increases my total to 6GB.

      In your case, via signing up through my referral link and using an edu email account, you should get 2GB+500MB space now.

      There's also a trick to up your space till 16GB for free without asking others to click your referral link. However, if this trick goes public I'm afraid it won't work anymore. Email me if you are really in need of the extra space.
