    Battery backup?

    • +3

These don't use batteries, it's one of their features. It's not the best idea in Australia to have a dashcam with a battery as it gets too hot in your car which damages the battery.

      • Will this continue recording when the car is parked?

I was just about to post this deal, you beat me to it! It's a good price for the S model. I just bought the standard last month and love it.

:) next time I'll PM you before I post

    • which micro sd card are you using? I got my A119v2 2 days ago

      • I would recommend a Transcend 64GB MicroSDXC Class 10 UHS-1. Novatek engineers use Transcend cards to test their image processors which is what is used in this dashcam.

        • +1

I looked high and low for a Transcend card but couldn't find any stores with stock.

        • Cool, but can't really find any local stock on transcend high endurance card at the moment.

      • I'm using a 64gb Sandisk class 10, my wife has a 32gb Kingston class 10 card.

        • How long has it been? if you don't mind me ask, how many hours or kms has it record so far on both card?

        • @tgame: I've had mine for about 4 weeks & drive 200km a day with a brand new card. My wife has had hers in for a week, she drives 3 days a week about 100km a day. The card in her camera was used in my GoPro before she started using it.

        • @Poss81: Thanks Poss81

For those in a rush, take note:

•The items will be shipped directly from Overseas Supplier by Air Parcel. It take 1-4 weeks (plus Handling Time) to arrive Other areas in Australia.

    • Thanks colaman…. yes, if you need it in next few days, this may not be a good option. For those who are happy to wait, this is very good price.

    • I ordered mine on eBay from Sydney and it took three weeks with Australia Post, and yes it was actually shipped from Sydney. My parcel from China ordered on the same eBay order arrived first, it beat it by a week and it was by Air Mail.

      • +1

Could have shipped in bulk from China to their Sydney warehouse, and then from Sydney to you.

        • No, it's just the unreliable Australia Post service. My wife ordered one the same day from the same place, hers arrive 2 weeks and 1 day before mine, yet they were both shipped on the same day.

  • Store on title.

Do people just use these things "in case" of an accident? Seems like a decent amount of messing around "just in case".

Plus surely it's a distraction having a screen visible in your windscreen which may cause an accident? At least you'll have it on tape lol

    • +5

Just wait until you get in an accident and the other driver tries to blame you and you have to argue it with insurance.

$100 is a decent amount compared to the excess you may have to pay if you can't argue your innocence?

The screen is tiny, plus it turns off so it doesn't display while you're driving unless you press a button to wake it.

Read the story behind this video.
      https://www.facebook.com/DashCamOwnersAustralia/videos/15040…
"Other driver listed me at fault on her claim."

Or see this guy trying to lay the blame on the camera car.
      https://www.facebook.com/DashCamOwnersAustralia/videos/15023…

The video will erase all doubt in those situations.

Great mic on the unit in the first video!

    • +3

I have one and the screen is obsured by the rear view mirror. So no distraction at all.

    • +1

That's why you hide it behind your rear view mirror and/or turn the screen off after a few minutes.

This is a very small price to pay to prove you're not responsible for an accident when a lot of the time it's now your word against there's if no one stops to help as a witness. Well worth the investment.

EDIT: everything was said above haha, should reload the page before I post :P

Not much messing around at all - If you want to keep it really simple, just attach the cam to your windscreen and just let the power cable hang down, and plug it into the centre console.

If you want a neater/stealth install then you will want to spend a little bit of time tucking the cables in around the windscreen trim, but that's still not all that difficult, and even if it is, it's a one-time job.

As far as I'm concerned it's a really cheap form of insurance. When I first got mine my father basically said "pffft". Then someone reversed into him in a car park and tried to blame him. Now he has one (or is about to have one, as soon as the memory cards turn up).

And as Unco said, the screen is not distracting a) because it's tiny, b) because you can (and should) set it to turn off after a minute or two. The camera should be mounted in an ubobtrusive location (such as behind the mirror like Porthos did), at worst it will be in your peripheral vision for a minute or two until the screen goes off.

  • just paid 129 on ebay from yesterdays deal.. ouchie

Not intending to spoil this post. But on ebay, you can cut down the total cost to 97.49 (if you are eligible for the code THANKYOU20- I think this code is tragetted)
And also can get some cashback from cashrewards I guess :)

  • No battery? Will it work if the car is parked and ignition is off?

    • +2

You can get a "hardwire" kit that allows for this. It has protection against battery going flat and you can use motion detection to start the recording if you wish.
