  • Not a good bargain

  • This is the one with a screwy screen right?

    • +1

They mounted the screen up side down, so it appear wobbly when you scroll

    • +4

      Nope. Mine is perfect.

      • +3

        Perfectly upside down.

      • I can also concur, I have a unit that, appears perfect, no wobbly effect or anything.
Those that were complaining must have been the minority.
I ordered mine from the Oneplus site from the US store and freight forwarded.

        • How much did it cost you on the whole?

        • +1

          @Rorschach:
Sorry late reply, been busy, just got engaged in the last few days.

I think it was around $750 to get the phone delivered to Shopmate, then about $40 to freight forward, so approx $800.
          I got the 8GB/128GB model

    • It's not screwy, it's installed upside on purpose.

For what purpose, I hear you ask? I have no idea.

However, some of the iPhone models have their screens mounted in the same way. Can sometimes cause what looks like a wobbly jelly effect when you aggressively scroll.

      • I heard it mentioned a while back that the screen panel on the oneplus 3t and 5 are the same. But for whatever reason it couldn't be mounted in the same orientation as the 3t, so they've just flipped it.

So it's possible that it was purely a cost saving measure and nothing else.

    • Mine has been perfect, no issues to report.
I got my 64gb for $583 with eBay 15% off soon after it was released.

  • +1

They should be giving them away after all the issues they have come to light.

I'm sure there'll be more issues as well.

    • What issues? Mine is far better than my previous Pixel XL.

      Reviews are positive also:
      https://www.notebookcheck.net/OnePlus-5-Smartphone-Review.23…

      • How does the camera compare to the Pixel XL?

        • I dont really take much notice of precise details/quality of photos … I'm just flicking photos to friends via whatsapp.

The OP5 noticeably faster in all respects compared to the Pixel XL which is most important to me.

    • +1

What issues, i've had mine almost a month, not one single issue.

  • +1

It's a bit sad that this phone has had issues. I have a OnePlus 3T and it's a great phone

    • I also have a 3T on the latest 4.1.6 and I can't say my experience is problem free.

      Issues between switching from/to 4G/WiFi.
Issues with obtaining consistent GPS lock.
      Poor camera quality

    • What are the issues?

  • +3

100% would not buy from geekbuying. Especially if these phones are susceptible to some issues. Warranty and replacement is a hit and miss from reviews, I was lucky and had a miss.

  • +1

Codes don't stack, so if the PAYPAL50OFF code is the better option if it will apply, when I use that on my cart it reduces the cost by $64.56AUD ($50USD converted I suppose)
Edit: it also removes existing special discounts, so it becomes 577ish.

  • +1

Wouldn't get this unless it's local stock due to issues with this phone model and warranty will be a pain.

    • -3

      Oneplus have local stock?
The warranty for buying in Australia and outside of Australia will be the same, except for shipping cost, it doesn't matter whether you buy it from an Australian business or not since it's imported anyway, all that matters is that you buy from a good company that will provide proper warranty (not Geekbuying).

      • Well it's good to know you have no idea what you're talking about.

        • -1

What part of what I said do you disagree with? As someone who imported a OnePlus, I feel as though I have a reasonable idea of what I'm talking about. If you'd like to provide evidence to the contrary, feel free to do so.

        • The warranty for buying in Australia and outside of Australia will be the same, except for shipping cost, it doesn't matter whether you buy it from an Australian business or not

Absolutely wrong. Australian sellers have to provide a warranty that complies with ACL, which includes repairs/replacement within a reasonable time frame and replacements even after the so called "warranty period" as it's expected a mobile phone (something with a high value) will last longer than a year or two. Whereas international sellers don't have to do a damn thing.

        • @potplanty: While that is true, that only matters after the warranty period is over if you're already buying from a company that provides proper warranty.

Orpheus was mentioning issues with the phone model, likely referring to issues such as the upside down screen etc, which I can't see being an issue warranty would cover as it is more a design choice. The other issues, for Orpheus to know about this soon after release, must appear soon after the purchase, not after a year or two, which means manufacturer warranty is all that is needed.

Admittedly, if you're making a large purchase like this, ACL would be good to have to protect you in the case of failure after the warranty period is over (although if you're buying a phone with these specs, you're likely to be someone who upgrades phones every 2 years or so regardless of if the old one is broken).

        • @potplanty: I did some research, and found that overseas companies are meant to follow ACL if selling in Australia, it can just be difficult to make them comply. Google "Do overseas companies have to follow ACL?" if you want more details, it's after midnight and I'm too tired to post links and quotes. Last year Valve claimed they didn't have to follow ACL, but the court disagreed.

        • -1

@BradleyDS2: Yeah it's more about enforcing any issues with non-compliance. Easier to just say that it doesn't apply to overseas as there's no real way to get them to comply.

        • @potplanty: Okay, that makes sense, just appears different when you say "Whereas international sellers don't have to do a damn thing." when the actual case is "Whereas international sellers are meant to follow ACL but it can be hard to force them to comply if they don't follow it properly."

        • -1

@BradleyDS2: "but it can be hard to force them to comply"

          More like impossible but yeah.

Just get LG G6 for around $470. This was supposed to be a flagship killer but LG G6 turned out to be a killer of a flagship killer…

    • I got a G6. Buy if battery life and software updates are not your first priority.

      • Battery life on mine is pretty good. I turned off AOD and helped quite a bit

QC 3.0 also for the win

        • AOD?

        • +1

          Always On Display, I'm guessing.

    • Agreed.

  • +1

Honestly, having owned a 3T I would avoid oneplus for future purchases. Software support has been woeful ( e.g. There was a widespread GPS bug that rendered google maps useless and it took more than 2months to push out a firmware fix for it). Even now i am a sitting duck waiting for the next update to fix current issues.

Software updates are crucial and knowing that the 5 will have priority within a small team, I am going to pass.

    • +1

Thanks for the review, i'll stick to LG.

    • What are your current issues you are awaiting a fix for?

  • This is not a bargain, I bought the 128GB Midnight Black for $670 delivered from eBay.

    • So post a link then.

      • $666 shipped with 10% off coupon 'PJNIGHT'
        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/142438242332

Bought mine from this seller, received 4 days later. Comes from HK which is where OnePlus phones are made, 100% genuine and sealed in box.

    • After the paypal $50 off discount, the 128GB Midnight Black comes out to about $655 shipped so I guess you missed out buddy.
