iPhone 2G (How Much Do You Think Its Worth...)

Ok. I've got a iphone 2G (original) bought from america when it first came out. Now im looking to sell it. Having done some research - checking ebay etc etc; prices vary from $25 up to $199 depending on the condition of the phone.
Looking at my phone, the condition isnt great, many scratches and dents on the cover, however the screen is in perfect condition. Now, its hard to evaluate the phone by comparing them to online prices, but looking at some refurbished ones which still dont look at all great are still $100+

Oh! and i should mention I lost the original box with all the original accessories, so its just the phone.
So the question is, how much are you willing to pay for a phone such as this as im looking to sell to friend's friend. If you are going to troll - just dont reply (please).

Thanks heaps!

  • I bought one of my friend for 60 bucks, mint condition + all the accessories. So I think I got a bargain…

I reckon you could get an easy $100 or so.

  • You do an advanced search on eBay. Just tick the 'Completed listings' box and it will show you all the iPhones 2G that were sold recently. You can then see how much they sell for.

    • Yea…I've done that. It's just some seemed a lot like bargains for how much they were, whilst some people seemed to have ripped off others. So im looking for a reasonable amount to offer to a friend. I mean, i dont want him coming back and asking for money back, but i also want as much as i cna get for it

have a look on this site, they're offering $120 for iphone 2g 16gb

    http://www.mazumamobile.com.au/index.php

    • oooooh great!…
well its 8gb, but they still offer $99 for a working condition phone which mine is. Do not need chargers or anything :D

      +1 here~~

so i guess around $100 is how much its worth right now… ^^

      • The prices on eBay for those 2G iPhones are pretty high. Sometimes I don't understand why some ebay buyers are willing to pay so much more.. Do they not know that they are just ripping themselves off?

        • thats exactly what i think…
Some are pretty smashed up, yet sells so high.

Oh wells, its being 3 years now…seeing i bought it at $599 american and almost 1-1 conversion rate from US dollars now, $100 dollars or so aint too bad of a depreciation rate…+all the scratches/tear and wear ;)

    Decided not to sell.
Planning to spend $50 dollars replace the back silver housing to RED!! :D

    cant wait ><

    • Where are you getting the case from?

When I bought a replacement off eBay it didn't come with the "insides" for a direct replacement. What I mean by that is all those antenna, vibrate unit, other bits and pieces on the housing.

      • yep, exactly what im getting.

I saw the ones which require you to peel off pieces off the original casing. too risky.
+ i can change it back if i want to

        ^^

        • Oh so you are gonna just the replacement cover without those metal pieces inside? I want to get a new replacement cover for my iPhone 2G from ebay too. But I'm scared I will spoil my phone. EEPS! Do you have "tutorial" on how to change the cover? I only can find youtube videos on how to dismantle the phone.

          • @polkadots610: Nope, im getting the ones with the pieces inside. The ones without require peeling which i find too risky. So the one that im planning to buy comes with all the pieces on the inside. So really, all i need to do is dismantle the antennae cover (black plastic) and pull off the casing (silver).
When i take that off, there should be one cord joined to the phone, so take care in removing it. THen with my new case, i just replace it. So really, those youtube vids will do. No need for anything else.

Heres a link to ebay seller…
            http://cgi.ebay.com/RED-APPLE-iPHONE-2G-FULL-BACK-COVER-FLEX…

            best one ive found

            • @bob_wangkar: Nice, it already has the flex cable on it! Bah, now to decide if I would rather spend more money on an oem case or buy a cheaper one and risk ruining my phone.

              • @polkadots610: uh huh…i couldnt risk my baby :P
videos explained that i needed some concrete remover blah blah strong powerful remover thing just to peel them off the original case…

i suggest not taking the risk…

  • Considering an 8GB iTouch sells for over $200 brand new. I think the 2G iPhone is worth about that mark. 2G iPhone is also useful as a PS3 jailbreak device.
