How to port out and back to same company (Amaysim to Amaysim)

Hoping someone can help.

I am trying to work out what I need to do to port out of Amaysim and back again to get a new customer deal. I want to keep my existing number.

There are a few forum posts that provide some advice but not exactly what I am looking for.

So far I have receive a free Telstra sim and am ready to port my mobile number to Telstra.

But what do I do to go back to Amaysim with minimal downtime?

I am wanting to sign up for a Groupon Amaysim deal.

So after I have ported to Telstra (and I am no longer an Amaysim customer) I was going to buy the Groupon Amaysim deal and then do I need to wait until the sim from this deal arrives before I can activate it and start the new Amaysim deal? I do not want to use my mobile with Telstra so would I then be without a mobile until the new sim arrives? Or can I use the old Amaysim sim and go logon to my account and re-activate this sim and transfer my number back to get the new customer deal?

Order the Amaysim from Groupon now, don't wait until you have ported to Telstra to buy the sim. Purchasing the sim does not "activate" it nor do you need to activate the sim once you receive it either.

Therefore you have all the sims you need on hand ready for when your current Amaysim deal is up and are able to port to Telstra and then back to Amaysim (using the one purchased from Groupon).

    • Thanks for your help. Do I need to wait for the new Amaysim sim to arrive or can I use my current Amaysim sim when I port back to Amaysim to get the Groupon deal?

No you will need to wait until you get your new Amaysim sim. Your current one will be "disabled" as soon as you port over to Telstra.

    1) Order Amaysim deal now, and port number to Telstra
    2) Go to Amaysim website and apply as new customer, and select "porting number".
    3) Wait for new amaysim SIM to arrive. Start porting process.

This means you will be on telstra until your new sim arrives, which is probably 3 days.

    • Thanks for your help. So just to make things clear, I will need to use the new Amaysim sim that I will receive from the Groupon deal and I cannot use my current Amaysim sim to port back to Amaysim with this deal? So looks like I will need to get some credit with Telstra for a few days so that I can use my mobile when I am waiting for the Amaysim sim to arrive?

        Exactly right.

        • @iceshadow @bsmksg: Thanks for the help guys. I have just purchased the Groupon voucher. I did not realise that all you do with Groupon is purchase a voucher that can then be redeemed with Amaysim at a later time. Now I know. So next I will port over to Telstra and go on the Day2Day plan and if need be I will load on $5 to my account which I can use while waiting for the Amaysim sim to arrive. Hopefully it won't take too long to arrive and I can start the deal soon.

    • Does the Telstra SIM have to be active before porting back? Or can i sign up with Telstra and ignore their SIM?

      • Yes, you need to activate the SIM so that your number is transferred from Amaysim to Telstra. As soon as this happens you can sign up as a "new" customer with Amaysim.

  • Can anyone help here, if they have port out & port back in to Amaysim. Do we need to request for old number to be port in to amaysim at the time of ordering sim? When the new sim from Amaysim will become active? Cause as I heard sometimes sim delivery could take up to week from Amaysim. There customer service is not up to the mark. Only I want to know before ordering cause I can't afford to lie my no. Idle as I am using it for work. It needs to be at least receiving a call while port out on other network.

    • I'm not sure about those details. Hopefully someone else can help. From memory, when I transferred another mobile number to Amaysim recently (I was not porting out and back again), I ordered the SIM and at the same time requested to transfer the old mobile number (although this did not start then). Once the SIM arrived in the mail, I went to the online account and requested to start the transfer of the mobile number to Amaysim.

Just now you reminded me that I needed to transfer my mobile number from Amaysim to Telstra. So I have just activated the Telstra SIM, requested that my mobile number be transferred and selected the Day2Day Plan (have not added any credit as yet). I am now waiting for it to be active with Telstra. Then once that happens I will transfer my mobile number back to Amaysim. Hopefully everything goes smoothly.

Interesting soon after (within a few minutes of) activating the Telstra SIM, my mobile number went dead and I was cut off from Amaysim. Also I could not access my Amaysim account anymore.

      • And I have just put the Telstra SIM into my phone and my mobile number service is now active with Telstra. So I will now try and transfer back to Amaysim.

        • All has gone smoothly so far. Signing up to Amaysim again was not difficult. I have requested a new SIM from Amaysim and it is on its way. I needed to use a different email address when signing up to Amaysim again as they had my other email address on their system still. So for that I just used a gmail alias address. All of my other contact details were the same as previously used. And when signing up I requested my mobile number be transferred from Telstra to Amaysim. There was a statement on the sign up page about the number not being active with Amaysim until I request it later (this I can do from the online account after I have received the SIM).

So from starting the transfer process from Amaysim and back to Amaysim it has taken 1 hour so far. So far so good. Finger crossed the Amaysim SIM arrives quickly.

        • @Rodo: So just to clarify, I am still connected to Telstra and am waiting for the Amaysim SIM to arrive. Once it arrives then I will transfer my number to Amaysim. I currently cannot make any outgoing phone calls/texts or use any data as I have not bought any credit with Telstra. People can ring/text me with no problem. If I needed to make a phone call with Telstra then I would to need to buy $5 credit with the Day2Day plan that I signed up for with Telstra.

  • Thanks bro., for detailed information. It will help out to clear my query.

  • For anyone still reading this thread, I have now made it back to Amaysim with my mobile number still active which is a a big relief.

The Amaysim SIM arrived yesterday afternoon. Last night I logged onto my online account to verify my ID which you have to do before joining Amaysim. Unfortunately this failed, so this morning I then had to ring Amaysim and have them verify my ID. After 30 minutes waiting on hold, someone answered and they easily verified my ID (don't know why it did not work online but it should have worked). The person then set up my Amaysim SIM and started the transfer process from Telstra to Amaysim (which I could have done online). Then in only a couple of minutes my number had been transferred back and working with Amaysim.

So all up it took me 4 business days from first starting the transfer from Amaysim to Telstra and back to Amaysim. The biggest issue was waiting for the Amaysim SIM to arrive and not making any outgoing calls/texts or data usage for this time (people could call me though and I could have bought Telstra credit if I had needed it). If only Amaysim could get their act together and have the SIM card arrive the next business day like Telstra did then this would be a very quick and simple process.
