[Expired] Duracell "Charger + 4 AA NiMH Batteries" OR 24 AAA Alkalins for $9.99 + $5.99 Shipping

480

I just bought two packages of the charger+AA batteries for $26. A good deal i would say. Similar things all selling at about $20/pack in stores. And this charger even has a usb port and able to charge usb devices on the go with your charged batteries!

Edit: I got my battery and charger packages just now (morning, 8 Oct). I can confirm it is CEF23AU and the batteries are 2000 mAH. I don't have scissors right now, so can not open it and check whether it got the smell. But it does look decent:) Overall, i am quite happy with the purchase.

  • you might want to put that it's the charger with 4 x AA OR the 24 x AAA alkalines…

    • Title edited. Cheers.

  • is the 4 x nimh battery are the rechargable battery? alittle confuse

    • +3

      nimh = rechargeable.

      alkaline = not rechargeable.

  • Just bought 2, nice

  • +2

"Charges USB devices including your iPod" handy :]

  • nice needed some AAA's… a pack of 8 AAA's alone would cost 13-14 in the shops :D

  • $33 for the 24 at officeworks so half price :)

  • my current chargers and batteries are getting a little tired…so just bought 1 set of each..thanks

  • +1

The charger is a CEF23 and the AA batteries are low self-discharge NiMHs (Duracell calls them "Active Charge"), similar to Sanyo Eneloops. Good deal.

Some people are quite keen on the CEF23 charger at this forum: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=282946
    Datasheet: http://www.professional.duracell.com/product_data/datasheets/Specialities/06058m1_CEF23EU(CEF23).pdf

  • The charger + batteries offer is Ok but the Alkaline batteries offer isn't as good really IMHO.

Deals Direct have 48 AA or AAA Rayovac Alkaline batteries for $10 + $10 shipping pretty much all the time and while the Rayovac's possibly aren't as long lasting as the Duracell's, overall i think they are better value for someone looking at buying bulk Alkaline batteries.

    • Might depend what you need the batteries for; these Duracell Ultra batteries are high drain batteries and last significantly longer than typical alkalines. See: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/SilverFoxCPF/AAAlkali…

Also, those Rayovac Alkalines have a use by date of Dec 2013, whereas these Duracells expire in 2015. I prefer this offer.

    • You can get the the 48 packs of Rayovac AA or AAA for 9.00 still in some places like HN, pick up though

  • Great post.
I have bought 2 of each.

  • Bought one of each, although the AAA alkalines are supposedly one off use only, you can 'recharge' them up to 15 times by using the 'ReZAP' Battery Doctor, depending on the condition of the alkalines.

Bought one from K-Mart a while back when they were on special.

Will leave the Duracell charger for work use.

    Good deal!

  • How do you know the charger is a CEF23????

Nothing on the website says it is…

    • I bought one on earlier sale by 1-day com and it is the CEF23AU being the model supplied with the AUstralian adaptor.

I use rechargables for many photographic uses and thes cell are excellent an the charger is equally excellent as it monitors each cell independently thus making it possible to charge one cell by itself or any combination of AA and AAA cells - many chargers require pairs of cells to be charged and each cell of the pair should be at a similar discharge level.

It is an absolutely great deal :)

      • The charger is close to a smart charger correct? Its got negative delta V montoring? How longs AA's take to recharge???

So does that mean i can charge only 1 AA battery? Instead of requiring 2 to be charged simultaneously?

        Cheers

You can see the datasheet here: http://www.professional.duracell.com/product_data/datasheets/Specialities/06058m1_CEF23EU(CEF23).pdf

          • Charge Termination based on -dV/dt
          • 2-6 hour charge
          • Battery Fit: 1-4 NiMH AA/HR6 or 1-4 AAA/HR03
        • Don't know the technology used but it acts like a typical neg. delta V charger. It certaily is not a trickle or timer system. Enclosed spec sheet says 1to4xAA in 4 hours from flat and 1to4xAAA in two hours so it definitely isn't a cell cooking 1/2 hour charger.

Yes you can charge a single cell or even a mixed pair

    • I bought one previously too; the picture and description is the same as before so it's almost certainly the same CEF23AU charger on sale here.

  • Picked up two charger sets.

Nimh Batteries are $10 for two AAs at some stores.

Great for feeding Wii and Xbox controllers…

  • The leatherman's pretty good deal too.

  • whats the capacity of the rechargeable batteries??

    • I bought one on earlier sale by 1-day com and it came with 2000MaH cells

  • i bought not long ago 40 AAA Duracell batteries for $20., so yea this special is pretty cheap.

but i would like to know how much are the AA rechargeable mAh power?? are they 1000mAh??

    because i a bought 4x AA 2450mAh ones for 11 bucks.

    • These are 2000 mAh low self-discharge NiMH batteries, so run times are as good or better than standard NiMHs rated at 2450 mAH.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_self-discharge_NiMH_battery

      • -1

hmm.. higher mAh means more capacity? in other words, 2450mAh battery will last longer than 2000mAh battery?

  • so for the charger, we can either use the plug, or charge using USB??

    • +5

The charger can charge USB devices when the charger is unplugged and has batteries inserted. You cannot charge the batteries themselves using USB, though.

      • -5

lol, id love to meet the person that would think that could be done

        • +1

wanna meet me? ;) im pretty sure in the future that can be done. :)

        • wtf it was totally legit question..never heard of a usb charger?

          • -5

@bitcoinorbust: for external batteries? why would you bother?

          • @bitcoinorbust: Yep, if you're referring to USB powered chargers for AA & AAA cells then yes, I've seen quite a few of them! ;)

The ones I've seen are only trickle chargers though, Aldi still have a few small 2x AA jobs in their bargain bins! :)

            • -4

@StewBalls: no, i was distracted when reading the above comments and read them wrong

        • +1

Simple electronics max, yes it could be implemented quite easily from a technical perspective! :)

However, given the limited current supply offered by USB, the efficacy of such a charger would be extremely limited! ;)

  • Well its close enough to a smart charger than.
Final question. Is the plug a flipout plug that goes into the wall socket or is it like an adapter? Cause flipout plugs can be hard/unstable when connecting to powerboards etc.

    Cheers

Some one had reported that this charger is given out a strong odour and making ticking noise while charging.

    • If what the people in the forum are saying is true then this definitely explains the cheap price.

    • I almost bought this, but now am giving it second thoughts too after reading what was being said in the forum. Is that the same model as the one sold in 1-day?

      • the smell doesnt worry me. but the ticking noise? i dont think that should be 'normal'. hmmm.. is it possible to get cheaper on ebay for the same model?

    • No issues with smells or ticking noises with my one. Those reporting issues in that thread might have got a bad batch, or maybe the problems are related to the American version?

  • Thanks for posting. The USB made this an excellent deal so I got 2 chargers.

  • Was tempted to buy some eneloops from Dealextreme earlier today but also needed AAA batts - this fits the bill perfectly!

    Thanks

    • Yup, same here! Two pretty little birdies, one rather cheap stone! :D

  • Thanks - Have been waiting for a good deal on rechargeables.

  • I have attempted to confirm with 1-day about the charger and batteries and the support people have no idea.

Kristian: Hi, how can we help you today?

    Me: Hello Kirstian,

Me: In regarding to the battery charger + batteries on sell, are they the CEF23 and the AA batteries are low self-discharge NiMHs (Duracell calls them “Active Charge”)

Kristian: Please hold while I look into this further for you

    Kristian: Choose from:

Kristian: •3 x 8 pk AAA Duracell Ultra Batteries (so 24 batteries in a pack)

    Kristian: ?OR

Kristian: •Duracell Battery Charger with 4 x AA NiMH Batteries

Me: Duracell carger + AA NiMH

Kristian: does this answer your question ?

    Me: No

Me: Is the model CEF23 with Active Charge batteries

Kristian: im sorry i dont understand the question

Me: Is the charger model CEF23

Me: Is the rechargeable batteries that come with it the Active Charge Battery type?

Kristian: Please hold while I look into this further for you

    • Have you read the posts above, looked at the image on the site and compared it to the pdf listed above.

The poor guy on the line only has the same information as we have - they are not an electronics store and the item is only available for a day.

      Be realistic mate!

  • got the charger now.

hoping it's not going to be so smelly ;)

  • far just missed it

  • I'd like to point out that you can get a far superior charger from officeworks at the price of roughly $11 provided you factor in the cost of the 4x rechargeable batteries it comes with.

It can charge batteries 1 by 1 and does AAA,9V as well as just AA.

    • Care to post a link? All the chargers listed on the Officeworks website seem to be dumb (trickle or timer) chargers and I don't see any that are "far superior" to this Duracell CEF23. This Duracell does 1 by 1 and AAA and AA (but not 9V, which I personally don't need).

      • Ah OK well my bad then, it's only superior in the sense that it looks awesome, doesn't smell and doesn't tick. I didn't realise that this Duracell charger does 1 by 1 too.

        • You missed the fact that if you factor in the cost of the included 4 x AA low leakage NiMH cells that this deal comes with you actually get paid to buy this charger using your logic :)

  • Needed some AAA Batteries that were decent brand for my green laser pointer :D I do have rechargable batteries AAA already but at this price I don't mind throwing em out when they die :D

  • My 4 CEF23 arrived along with the 2 x AAA duracell packs. It is indeed the Active Rechargeable cells and there is a strong odour that I could live with. There is the normal ticking noises which I felt is a result of a poorly design voltage switch that the charger use to check the battery charging status.

  • nice..just opened my perfume flavoured battery charger O.O

  • Yeh it really does smell like perfume. lol.

Is this meant to be the weird smell?
