Steering Wheel for PC with Pedals and Gear Shifter

Hi everyone,

My son is really into cars and car games on the PC. Surprisingly he's not that much into racing games, but in simulations like City Car Driving. No idea why, don't ask. He spends hours driving through cities obeying all the traffic rules etc. Anyway…
It's his 10th birthday in a few Months and he keeps on nagging me for a steering wheel. He wants the whole set up with wheel, pedals and gear shifter. He has his eyes set on the Logitech G29 + the Gear shifter.
I can't and also don't want to afford $400+ for that. Is there a cheaper option? It doesn't have to be the Logitech I guess, but I understand it's the best to get atm? Correct?

Cheers,

You could try looking out for a used Logitech G27 wheel. (Predessor to G29) I've seen the Logitech G29 below $400. There is a gaming sale on eBay ATM could be worth a browse.

I've just bought a G29 wheel+ racing seat so my G27 will shortly be going on eBay.

Otherwise from a quick gumtree search https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/werribee/playstation/logitec…

Edit: I see you're in Brissie. There's one for $300. Maybe offer $260?

    • thanks knick007.
Do these steering wheels wear out easily? Don't want to grab a second-hand one just to have it falling apart after a few Months

The shifter wears out, the steering wheel is rugged

If you get the g29 the shifter is sold separately. Depends how he uses it. They should be sturdy enough

You should be able to pick up a used G27 fairly cheaply (~$150 on Gumtree/ebay)as the new generation of consoles require the wheels to have a RFiD chip (not required on PCs). This is why Logitech brought out a new range of wheels. I have had a G27 for about 5 years now and it is still going strong.

Maybe look for a second hand Logitech Driving Force GT - you should be able to get them off ebay for ~$50.

Back in the day, the Logitech Driving Force GT was probably the best value wheel out there - I got mine for around $80 new IIRC (though RRP was around $160?), and its still holding up well. Unlike the G27/29, it's made of rugged plastic rather than metal, and the gear switcher is semi auto rather than manual - but that shouldn't matter at all for someone who's into city driving. Honestly, the force feedback and build quality is great and doesn't feel cheap at all. The only issue is making sure the one you buy is in good condition.

  • thanks for the info everyone. I will keep an eye on gumtree for a bargain. Cheers!
