My sim is optus.
I want a new handset with wifi.
Boost has a prepaid handset with wifi that im considering.
Will the optus sim work in the boost phone for calls/sms? or does it need unlocking?
Will I be able to pick up wifi in cafes/hotspots (with the optus sim in the phone)?
I read the boost blackberry pearl post from a while back that an optus internet data plan wont work in boost, but im not on or getting a data plan.
Id appreciate if someone could help. Thanks
If the phone you buy is from a certain Teleco then it will be locked to them in most cases and you'll need to get it unlocked over the phone if you want to use a different sim. Once it's unlocked it will work for calls/sms's no matter what sim you put in it as it will be unlocked. Wifi should work if its unlocked, as the setting and stuff for Wifi are directly to your phone and not the company your sim is with e.g. Data Plans.
Btw you can only unlock boost phones by calling them, the number to unlock it is here http://www.boost.com.au/help, I'm pretty sure that is how it works but if you want to confirm and stuff call Boost and ask them on the specific phone and Optus sim. If they don't tell you and you think its because you'll use a different company just call back later saying you go overseas alot and need a phone that can use prepaid sims from the places you go. Last part works for me when I was calling 3 about unlocking a phone.
Hope this was helpful. =]
