How durable are the soles? This is my problem with Julius Marlow, and my new ck look questionable too

and consider that all of Florsheim's shoes, as well as your Julius marlows and CK, are cemented.

      • I mean the outsole itself, not the connection between the upper & sole. The rubber outsole grinds down extremely quickly. Ie: I don't care if it can't be resoled, provided the original lasts long enough.

    • I have found Florshiem to be the most durable soles with little wear, all other brands I wear tend to wear down within 6months.

    • Agree with WIllisAU.

Cheap brands are all cemented soles and hence crap for any real longevity - Julius marlow is at a better price point given that the expected life span will be the same as Florsheim's anyway. You could theoretically resole cemented soles, but will any cobbler bother with the effort involved?

Welted or stitched soles will run for higher prices, but the soles are much more easily replaceable and the uppers will last much much longer. (Eg. RM Williams or Church's)
