Coles eGift Cards can no longer be converted into Coles Group physical Gift Cards

By now probably you all know that Coles no longer allows for the 5% discounted Coles eGift Cards to be converted into Coles Group physical gift cards (the ones that can be used in Coles Express, 1st Choice, Liquorland, Kmart, Officeworks, Vintage Cellars, Target, Myer etc) because they have upgraded all checkout systems and it just will not allow it even if the staff member tries to override it.
And apparently even the purchase of third party giftcards with Coles eGift Cards are not always allowed (depending on staff member serving you? -to be confirmed).
Coles has already lost my fuel business (Coles Express is always much more expensive than Woolworth Caltex anyway).
However it was convenient for me to use the physical Coles Group Gift Cards in 1st Choice, KMart, Myer and especially Officeworks (with their price beat policy).
I am interested in knowing Ozbargainers thoughts.

It's pretty obvious why they are not allowing it. Because people abused it. The other retailers especially those selling fuel and electricals (and even more so when price marching) would work on much much tighter margins than the supermarket.

All loopholes get closed eventually. Just appreciate that you got to take advantage of it for so long.

Pretty sure it's also against AML legislation also.

Well you can buy Woolworth 5% discounted (sometimes more than 5%) eWish Cards that work in every Woolworth group business, including fuel, alcohol and electrical. So your argument does not stand.

Well, do that then. If that is the case, this whole thread is pointless.

I suppose…just as pointless as this one

However not pointless if someone has found another way to do it.
Or if Coles monitors Ozbargain (which they probably do) and realises that Woolworths is one step ahead in this. After all they are all competing with each other to get the most business…

@maxi: Ah, the good ol' trolling through someones history comeback. Pathetic.

          @sparkles:
No more pathetic than posting useless comments like yours. If you do not have anything constructive or worthwhile to add you should abstain from commenting and spare others the pain to deal with your whinge.
Obviously you do not have anything better to do.

@maxi: You probably don't even see the irony in your last comment, do you? You've just described yourself. This whole thread was one huge whinge, seeking validation for your abuse of the system, and if I hadn't replied in the first place this thread would be dead. Bye now.

        • @sparkles:
You are not worth the time.

        • @maxi: Except you keep coming back.

You know, you'd be much better off spending your valuable time seeking somewhere else to rort 5% off. Bahahaha

Pretty sure it would be the other way around, supermarkets work on some of the tightest margins. Then other retailers have some what better bargains to work with. Most of the discounts provided by the supermarkets are funded by the suppliers.

  • Where can I get 5% discount coles eGift card?
