I found this sale of the mi drone 4k. I ordered one for myself. Can't buy the batteries from gearbest for some reason.
Now it is even cheaper. Just my luck.

Looks like a legit drone option apart from DJI, let us know how long it takes until you receive it, and will look forward to your reviews!
Bought one last flash sale from Gearbest come pretty quick with standard postage
Nice drone so far battery last around 20min
I was thinking the DJI drones, but do have a Xiaomi phone have been impressed with it so far.
As a first time buyer for drones, is this a good start?
Well this is my first drone
Using it with my Xiaomi mi max
The app is getting continues updates
For the camera and drone haven't gone
Past 500 metres yet only thing when you go
Past around 200 metres the camera sometimes cuts out on the app where you just have to click out and click back into the camera mode plenty of videos out there to show it off all in all fantastic drone
On par with the mavic i would say for half the price
I'm not sure but it seems like a good option. I was going to go DJi but they come with some gps restrictions that don't allow you to take off close to restricted areas. To be able to you need to write to DJi and show your drone licence and a flight plan and they unlock it for certain amount of time.
I work in photo and video so that restriction would really stuff me up because of weather cancellations for example.
I'll give this a go. At that price if it isn't for me I wouldn't be loosing much if I sell it after I test it.
Before you buy one maybe look into the
can i fly there app a lot of restrictions in aus and i can see it maybe getting worse down the track as people get more drones
@stussy: I have the app.
The guy that I work with is licensed and can get exemptions from casa.
The problem with the pro DJIs is that apart from the casa permit you need to contact them in China to unlock it before you take off in one of the lift of restricted sites in their list.
Yeah not familiar with dji but that will suck if it is locked down where you would want to use it not sure if this mi drone has the same problem as i have only used it in my area so far as i have only had it for month
Mi drone also has NFZs. If you want to see which areas, install the mi app and browse the map, you'll see which NFZs are in your area.
@BargainKen: uh oh. 😕
Saw videos on youtube
Quite impressive
Nothing against this mi.. I'm sure it's great for beginners but if looking at this consider the spark for around the same price imported via cn.
Spark is only 1080.
Mi is more like a phantom 3.
Lol for beginners more like the spark is for beginners
A nice video showing it of with the dji 4
Good idea for spark as an alternative …
But how does the Mi Drone 4k 5100 mAh battery compare against Spark 1480 mAh battery?
Mi is a lot heavier 27 min they say but full throttle 20min
Spark they say 16min but im sure full throttle would be like 12 min
If you use code MI4KWIFI price should drop to $589.11
Cheers for that, and now I've pulled the trigger and bought it.
Code doesnt work for me. Am I doing something wrong? Says "The Code you entered has expired." then jacks price from $616 to $884?!
Tomtop has it for $452usd with 7.2% Cashback with CR. Shipping is with toll. They also have spare batteries for $66usd.
Range is officially 2km. Unofficially 4-5km is achievable.
Thanks. Ended up ordering from TomTop for $452, which should be about $530 after cashrewards and paying on my 28 degrees card in USD.
post the deal? is Tomtop reliable. It's relatively new isn't it?
paid with pp so if any issues it's lodge a dispute
I bought one from Tomtop a month ago for $625, arrived in a week and the drone is great.
It has a restriction altitude and distance until you have flown for 5+ hours.
Also with regards to cashrewards it registered my sale at AUD$237.81 (not AUD$625) so the cash back was only $17.12
I have contacted CR but nothing seems to have changed and that was a few weeks ago.
I did pay with Paypal as it was my first purchase from Tomtop but no issues so far.
Ordered their spare batteries last week but they haven't arrived yet, so can't comment on those yet
They did that to me. Submitted my invoice and they collected the amount a day later.
Did you order the spare battery from TomTop? I just tried to order but it says they won't ship to Australia.
@eciuj: Yeah, through Tomtop, i noticed when i ordered it only let me buy from their china warehouse but that one is now also not shipping to Aus.
All good, thanks. I'll just have to get it from AliExpress or eBay for about $100.
@eciuj: I bought a battery from this guy on ebay (He's not quite the cheapest).
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-Drone-RC-Quadcopter-Spa…
But it did take 3 weeks to arrive.
[@eciuj]try(/comment/4909113/redir):
I ordered two from eBay. Best offer 100 Bux each
Hi xerot,
Did your 4k drone come with a USB wireless dongle?
Mine didn't but it came with propeller protectors. Just wondering if that's normal as the package contents didn't mention anything about protectors.
@jenovax1:
Hi jenovax1,
Mine did come with the USB dongle but did not include the propeller protectors.
Which version did you get 1080p or 4K? I got the 4K.
I got the 4k from tomtop.
I am guessing they randomly send out one or the other but not both. The propeller protector was in section 3 of the box.
Still yet to take it out for spin :)
@jenovax1:
It's fun and so easy to fly, i gave my mate a go who has never flown anything before and he had no issues.
My section 3 in the box was completely empty, that threw me when i was unpacking.
Have a good flight.
Has anybody had experience with how long shipping takes?
mine was a week delivery from tomtop, others have 7-15days so id say realistically 2-3weeks unless you pay for the faster shipping charge.
Mine was bought on Saturday. Sent from China today. I'll keep you updated
Thanks. I decided not to get it because you can't turn off no fly zone restrictions apparently. Even testing it at home or 1-2m off the ground is impossible it looks like. DJI allows deactivation at your own risk. Not sure if there is an Australian map for the NFZ yet though so it may not matter.
DJI won't let you deactivate it either if it's a red zone. Unless there's firmware hacking options for your craft.
@BargainKen: Yes I saw that. But it's more for the bits around the red zones. Wonder if anybody could test it out for me.
@mit: In Australia at least for now, all we have is red NFZ's according to their map, and there's no turning those off. In USA and other places you have a few yellow zones etc. Check the DJI NFZ map for yourself.
@BargainKen: Oh I meant for the Mi Drone. I know about the DJI map. I'm leaning towards forking out the extra for that Mavic or getting a second hand phantom.
@mit: phantom 3 SE is the direct competitor to this drone. Cost about 50 more. Batteries aren't as cheap though
No follow me :(
Ordered from TomTop last week for $469 USD ($595.48 AUD with 28 degrees) which comes with a soft shell bag. Pretty handy and it's nicely fitted specifically for this drone. Apparently it arrived in Sydney today and hopefully I'll get it on Monday.
I also ordered a spare battery at the same time I placed the order for the drone however they still haven't shipped the battery. When asked why they said they can't ship the spare battery to Australia which is odd as when I placed the order it clearly said they ship to Australia.
Pretty dodgy of them to be honest. They never responded to any of my emails and I only got a hold of them via chat. They said they are refunding the battery order which will take 5 days. Now I need to look somewhere for a spare battery.
Any suggestions?
eBay seller bg27cyf
Thanks mate, just ordered a spare battery and something else from them. Look's like they are Banggood but on ebay. Also used a $20 voucher from ebay which is a bonus :)
It must have been a recent change as I ordered a few early in the month and they arrived but looks like Australia is off limits now. Two of the batteries they sent came with numbers that didn't track so I wonder if they were even sent… This was from Tomtop, GearBest seem to not allow to Australia either. I was thinking it's a DJI thing at first but it appears to be all LiPo batteries as I tried for my other craft and all subject to the same limitations
Hmmm now the eBay seller bg27cyf is trying to cancel my order with a vague reason saying there is an issue with the battery and the supplier.
Cant seem to be able to get a spare battery for this drone.
Mine show dispatched.
Just try another eBay seller.
Alright my drone arrived today, but instructions are in Chinese only- was hoping for an English section. Anyone have a link for instructions?
Also anyone else's section #3 empty?, my receipt was also printed halfway with text- hoping this is normal?
Here's a link to the english instructions.
Cheers mate, was your section #3 empty too?
How is it flying?, I won't have a chance this week as I'm working and the weather isn't good this week in Perth :/
Sorry I don't actually own one haha, just found those instructions with a quick google search and thought it'd help you out. Hope it flys well!
Hey Polde, it's empty if it didn't come with propeller protectors. You must have received a USB wireless dongle instead.
Yeah I did actually, propeller protector's would've been great sadly
Some companies have problems exporting LiPo batteries under airline regulations. Try Banggood, I have not had any problems recently getting batteries from them 😀
