Any Good Pre Built Tower Desktop Builds with a GTX 1070 or GTX 1080?

Can include monitor as well but generally I find them or see them with towers only..

Really want to game at 4k resolution as closest to 60fps. 1080p is nice but it is hard to go back.

NSW location preferred or at least shipping to NSW.

Last one I saw was the GTX 1070 refurb for under $1100. Now expired.

  • Try going for 144hz if you're a gamer, it's amazing. 144hz/1440p is doable with some graphics tinkering with a 1070 and definitely with a 1080.

    • High framerates only really matter if you're playing fast-paced games like shooters. That said, if you're tossing up between a 1070 and a 1080, chances are that OP is going to play AAA action games.

http://www.msy.com.au/nsw/auburn/content/31-system-packages. Ask them if they'll let you add extra for a 1070 or 1080.

No way mate, I mean high refresh is essential if you're going for competitive fast-paced shooters and MOBAs but it makes any kind of game look so much better. Open world RPGs like Skyrim and The Witcher look incredible at that buttery-smooth 144 fps.

With G-Sync, even better, I hate screen tearing.

  • I think 1080p/144hz ~ 4K/60fps in terms of performance requirements.
However gaming at 4K will get easier with optimisations, but gaming at 144hz will never get easier.
(ie/ you could maintain Medium Settings on 4K for some a many years, but 144Hz will have reduce to Low Settings)

So if you "train your eye" for 4K, you should notice that more titles will be available to your fidelity settings in the future.
However, if you "train your eye" for 144Hz (or even 120Hz), you might realise that future titles will need their settings/fidelity further downgraded to hit that ultra-framerate.

I would say a compromise between the two is actually better, something like 1800p/Checkerboard/SMAA/High Settings/60fps.
You'll be able to hit 60fps more reliably, the visuals would be noticeably better than Medium and Low, and its Antialiasing and resolution that's too close to 4K for most people to notice a difference.

The best electricity-vs-visuals (optimisation/performance) seems to be to go: High Settings, 60fps, 1080p resolution.
It's no surprise; that's the mainstream spec so that's what developers target primarily and optimise for.
Going above High Settings requires more performance/electricity but gains less visual improvement.
Going above 60fps requires more performance/electricity but gains less visual improvement.
Going above 1080p requires more performance/electricity but gains less visual improvement.
It's the point of diminishing gains. Just food for thought.

*everything depends on your system and the title, the statements above are just facts based on averages, ymmv.

    • Cheers thanks Kangal some great points there. I'll keep the train your eye comment in mind for future developments in me purchases a beastly computer.

The only main reason I am opting for 4k over higher refresh rates atm is to get that still frame amazing resolution. Most games I plan to play will need higher refresh rates but for that occasional eye candy moment I want that 4k in all its awesomeness.. it is a hard compromise as 120Hz+ is definitely noticeable in gameplay and visuals especially as you said shooting games.. I know Doom would look lovely.

But say 4k gta v or skyrim etc in 4k omg haha I could just stare at that for hours lol. Anyways still early days for me on deciding just looking at my options for now.. I am in no rush to buy one I think anytime soon bar a super hot crazy insane deal. I'll always be keeping my eyes out for that.

      • Yeah, no worries. I can tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps no problem.
I see improvements going from 60fps to 120Hz only for titles like CSGO, Overwatch, Doom, F1 racing.
But really no improvement going from 120Hz to 144Hz… and screen tearing starts to become an issue.
So you should think about your monitor first and foremost.
I'm not sure if there's any/many 4K monitors out there with 120Hz or 144Hz refresh rate.
So you may have to make a decision between 1440p/144Hz and a 4K/60Hz.
Also you will need to choose between Gsync and FreeSync.
So this will really impact your budget, so it will impact the type of pc you can buy aswell.

I think pre-built gaming computers are usually worse than one that you can build yourself.
Worse when it comes to price, performance, cooling, bloatware, etc etc.
Unless for one single reason, and that is "compactness".
If you want the most compact gaming computer, its either:
        - Gaming laptop (1.5L - 6.2L) connected to monitor/tv
        - MSI Trident 3 (5.8L)
        - Corsair One (13.4L)

The smallest compact gaming computer you can build, you would be limited to cases such as:
        - Open air, woodblock, ziptied
        - FractalDesign Core 500 (19.5L)
        - SilverStone SG13 (11.5L)
        - FDesign Node 202 (10.2L)
        - Silverstone RVz02 (9.8L)
        - Dan case A4-SFX (7.3L)
        - Dr Zaber Sentry (6.9L)

        If possible, build it yourself.
It's not difficult, there's plenty of tutorials and YT videos. It's basically "Adult Lego".
Then you can make it the way you want it. Or get extra power. Or save extra money.
If you aren't in a rush, and you fancy the United States… you can always take a vacation there, and come back with a Gaming PC (because price and availability there is tops).

        • Compactness is not an issue. I just want to build a beefy pc with a 65" or larger tv as a monitor in mind.. I used to like smaller pc monitors but the size factor is a huge thing for me now.. saw a 78" in person and was like woahdude ok I gotta get me some of dis.

Then secondly I am always on the lookout for a beefy laptop weight doesn't matter as much mostly just performance for taking away for me. GTX 1070 minimum atm unless I see some good deals for 1080s pop up in the near future.

I am all for diy projects I have just gotten sloppy over the years and things like sitting the cpu and proper cable management I am not too confident with these days also one mistake with an esd charge and kaboom there goes a few hundred dollars of hardware. If I were to play operation now in my late 20s with my heart condition I would drastically severely fail.

        • @AlienC:
I think if you want to Game on a TV… well you can kiss 144Hz goodbye.
Even TV's that are insanely expensive and boast high refresh rate are excused.
Again, that goes for 120fps / 120Hz gaming as well.
You should instead look for a TV with the lowest latency.

SONY used to be king, but I've heard LG and Samsung have improved greatly over the last 1-2 years.
I would recommend LG usually because they have a nice display (maybe second to Samsung), but they have WebOS 2.0 which is a great user experience for regular TV and Navigation, their remote is also much better than Samsung's. I had high hopes for SONY and their AndroidTV OS, but have been let-down.

So now you're looking at 4K/60fps.
I would say, you should get a Compact PC.
If you want to save yourself the heart-attack get the MSI Trident 3 (smaller and cheaper) or the Corsair One (better cooling and modular).
In fact, you should see if there is a RyZen version of the Corsair One coming out soon.
Both Console Killer/PC's come with 2 year warranties.

Or if you're man enough, build it yourself, here's my recommended specs:
OS: >$20 Windows 10 Pro OEM Key
          Case: >$100 SilverStone RVz02
          CPU: >$270 AMD r5-1600
          GPU: >$500 GTX 1070
          Mob: >$140 mITX B350 w/ Wifi
          PSU: >$120 Modular SFX-L 600W
          RAM: >$200 DDR4-3200 2x 8GB RAM
          SSD: >$300 1TB Crucial MX300 M.2
          HDD: >$110x2 Seagate Barracuda x2 2TB 5400rpm-128MB (2.5" 7mm)
          Total: >$1,800 - $2,000 - $2,100<

With that setup it can blend in nicely next to a TV.
Act like a Kodi/Netflix box. Play emulators upto a Nintendo Wii U.
Be a competent Personal Computer and stay relevant for 5+ years.
…as for games, it should be able to play all/most games at Ultra Settings/60fps/1440p resolution… or High/40fps/4K… or High/70fps/1800p-checkerboard-4K.

        • @Kangal: nice build is the crucial really that good to justify over a Samsung? I thought Samsung was the king of performance/$

Any chance you could pcpartpicker that build into a list?

I think this is very close to what I want to get.. I am just thinking about saving more for maybe a GTX 1080ti heeheehee

        • @AlienC:
The Crucial MX300 is equal/slightly better than the Samsung 850 EVO in real-term performance, but its cheaper. The Samsung PRO SSD's are much faster than either, but its not justifiable as it costs far more. And the performance gains are more for specific users.

You can always start from a lower-end, and upgrade hardware as you see fit/budget.
          For instance;
          R5 1400 and GTX 1050
          R5 1500X and GTX 1050Ti
          R5 1600 and GTX 1060 (6GB)
          R5 1700 and GTX 1070
          R5 1800X and GTX 1080
          Threadripper and GTX 1080Ti

The best thing about PC Gaming is that games are cheaper than console games upon release, online play is free, the mod community (eg/ GTA V and Fallout 4) are really neat, there is some nice emulators, game sales can get you a lot of content for very little coin, games are ALWAYS backwards compatible, no need to re-buy games, no need to re-buy accessories, and there's no "HD Packs" or "Definitive Editions" as the graphics are always the best and can be chosen by you.

I rather not make a pcparts list, because I think you can find better deals from multiple sources.
If you must, you can browse for completed builds. Here's a link:

edit: Alright here's something I whipped up quickly.
          https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mTk73F
          https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/mTk73F

Obviously it isn't perfect because you can remove Win10 Pro ($138) and instead go for a legitimate $20 OEM Key. Or even download and install it for free from Microsoft's website without a key. The prices here are based on regular prices, if you hunt for deals you can make savings on each part. I think the Stock cooler that you get with the new Ryzen are good enough, and can be used to overclock to 3.9GHz… however, I'm not sure of the exact height, so I added a Cryorig C7 which should perform nearly as good whilst being a slim cooler that will fit into the RVz02 case, but it might need a bracket to fit onto AM4 mobo. The motherboard I chose isn't the best one, but it gives you Wifi built-in as well as the M.2 slot which is what the other ones lacked, obviously the database for AM4 mobo isn't comprehensive on PCPartPicker but I imagine Moderators will add the other OEMs/Options sooner or later. I added the two slim hard-drives, and a M.2 SSD… totalling ~5TB which is plenty enough. You can remove one or both HDD as per your budget. You can also downgrade the SSD to a smaller capacity for budget. And if you like, you can buy a single stick of 16GB RAM to start off which should be enough, and buy a second 16GB stick later when you have the funds.

edit 2 : Just saw this, might be worth considering for yourself:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/320304

        • [@Kangal]: Ryzen 1600 non-X comes with wrath spire cooler, no need for additional cooler. (Item code ends with 'BOX')

Also, it seems the value of RAM over 2400mhz drops, as per this nerd's video: https://youtu.be/D_Yt4vSZKVk

Otherwise pretty good build, would be better if GPU prices weren't messed up.

        • @Kangal: nice that is a great build and dump of information cheers thanks Kangal.

Ooh the laptop is so tempting but after missing the refurbished ones I am still so salty also FHD screen only :( minimum 2k or 4k screen for me if going the 1070 route for sure that I have made my mind up on. So it's the waiting game for me.
