Ultrabook - Can't Decide

Hey guys, looking for an Ultrabook, can't decide what I want.

All I plan on doing is web browsing and office. All I really care about is a decent screen and good battery life. Looking at the Asus Zenbook,
HP Envy 13 and contemplating spending the extra on the Dell XPS13. I use it daily so something good quality would be nice. Anyone able to compare the Envy/Xps?

Cheers

  • My Asus zenbook is all around great (except for the touch pad which I think is the worst I've ever used), also my particular model (ux303la) has a problem where the hinges break

Which ever you decide to get, Google for problems that model has

    • Do you use google chrome web browser? I have the UX305 and my only complain is that every time i open chrome, the cpu gets pushed to 100% for 10 seconds even though there are only 5 tabs and the whole laptop slows down massively (the mouse lags and everything becomes unresponsive). Other browsers dont have this issue. Just wondering if a fellow zenbook user suffers the same problem. Thanks

      • No, that doesn't happen with me. I'm not sure how much cpu is used, but it tends to open fine. However, in the past few weeks, if chrome is already open when I open my laptop, it kind of hangs and just loads forever until I close the browser and open it again…

Have you tried any fixes? I did some googling and the internet suggests disabling hardware acceleration in chrome's settings. (maybe this will fix my problem too?!)
Otherwise, have you tried reinstalling, or disabling all of the extensions? Are you using a vpn?

        • +1

Oh yea. I also have this chrome browser hanging issue just recently. I reinstalled chrome and it appeared to have fixed it.

I have disabled hardware acceleration and it helps a little. I dont have any extensions or vpn. Almost a vanilla chrome browser. It could be the cpu, I find that pretty weak and unable to handle multi tasking well. But it is an ULV cpu so there will be some trade off.

  • I was going to get an Ultrabook and ended up with a Surface Pro. It's been brilliant for travel (very light). The only thing I don't like is using the trackpad (it's a softer surface so friction slows you a little, so I use a wireless mouse if I have to use it for more than 20 mins.
