Roof Restorer Caused Water Damage

Hi guys

I have recently got roof restored by one of the roof restorer. They have done all the job today. We just discovered yesterday (my wife just tell me today) and today that our bathroom heater light and exhaust fan got mud water stain.

Apart from that, the laundry room exhaust fan has stain on it and the light failed to work. I have then removed the LED light bulb and it has burnt smell which I have fitted it in around a month ago, then I saw water drop on the actual light bulb. In regards to the exhaust fan, does it normally has air coming in through it? Meant to be air going out from inside the room but when it was switch off and you can feel cold air coming in like ducted aircon. Is this normal?

I immediately pull out the ceiling light fitting and saw it has stain on the cable, it looks like water stain that I'm worry to touch with bare hand.

I haven't pay yet wondering what should I do. Should I claim from the roof restorer anything?

Cheers

How did you manage to squeeze 9 "and" in one sentence?

I stopped counting when he added the first full stop. Amazing!

They use a high pressure water blaster to clean the roof so the paint sticks. I guess depending on your roof's age and condition there could easily be water ingress between the tiles. It will dry out in a day or two.
If they didn't clean the roof, the paint would not stick properly and you would be complaining in a few years time when it peels off.
If you are concerned call them and talk to them.
(And just get up there and clean your fans, this is a maintenance job you should /have to do every year or so)

    • Im worry it will cause major issue later, but i have no clue what major issue will be…crossed my finger it is just my light bulb that not functioning now..

  • Refuse to pay, they should of checked if your roof leaks before blasting it with water.

    • They should take reasonable care if my roof like 15 years old. they should aware it may cause some water leakage and let me know in advance so i wont have this suprise.

Many years ago, my mum got her roof restored.

As mentioned by a previous poster, they use a high pressure water hose to clean the tiles.

They mentioned that the guttering wasn't the best and said they can replace them too.

However, after the restoration… when it began to rain, the guttering was leaking water profusely where beforehand didn't leak at all.

It can be postulated that they used the high pressure hose on the guttering to make it worse so they can get that job as well.

I'm sure that there are many great tradesmen out there that do an honest and great job, but to find them are like a needle in a haystack.

Firstly, I would get evidence and take photos and make a complaint about this issue and EMAIL them (if they have an email address). If not then verbal.

Then wait for a response and see what they can do and what effort for recourse.

Document, document and document processes of steps, so you can use this as evidence if further action is taken.

You have to show that you are trying to resolve and making an effort.

The best thing is to try to resolve this amicably so it doesn't explode to a full blown conflict.

You can also try to get advice from Consumer Affairs.

If it is a cash in hand job, then mention that you are willing to opt for a receipt and pay for GST (Evidence of work .. warranty etc)

If it is not their line of work then you are basically screwed!

    Good luck
