[PC] Free Weekend Play and 50% off ($19.99 US ~ $26.19 AUD) - Doom (2016)

80

You can get a chance to try out the new Doom (well, the one from 2016 but it is the newest one) to see if you like it.
If you do, you can get it for 50% off - I am not sure how good that price is as I have not checked but I thought I include this offer in this post as otherwise someone would have complained about leaving it out.
As I have not played the game myself I assume that the free time would be sufficient to play the game through in single player campaign - so if you are not in multiplayer, you can play the game for free and then be done with it.

Enjoy.

Edit: Checked the historical low which is $17.58 AUD - no idea when it was and if it will happen anytime soon again. Therefore, if you want to play soon, the 50% is not too bad I suppose.

Edit: Apparently the free play only includes the first two missions of the campaign - not sure if this is correct and was not aware of it at time of posting. If it is true, maybe then the enormous download is not worth it. Sorry if this post wasted your time.

  • this is currently 20$ on EB Games,
and a 65 Gig steam download,
after the 65GB it hit me with a 35 GB update. WTF?

    • And this is one of the reason I have not played it/tried it so far. But if you have got a good internet connection and set it going now then you you can play tonight after work I suppose.
Keep in mind internet speed in the US and other parts of the world is much better so it is not a problem for them. Hence Steam does not see this download size as a problem.
However, to make you feel better, imagine how you would feel if you only had 56k dial up modem speed for that download. ;-)

    • Yep. I got mine from EB last week.
Now to download it over the next few months. (Mobile broadband is all I got) :(
      Apparently it's worth the effort.

        yea, it's pretty good.
        67GB installed.
        totally worth it

          Let me guess, 66.666 GB?

No deal - cheaper directly from Bethesda for $17.99 AUD: http://in.ign.com/doom/110710/news/doom-update-666-scraps-se… (or at least, will be, supposedly, after the free weekend?).

Also, the "free play" weekend only includes the first 2 missions of the campaign, which is barely more than the demo which includes the first level.

    • That is not stated on Steam. How do you know it only includes the first 2 missions?

Saw it in the article. Never mind.

Still not sure if it is correct as Steam does not state that. Needs to be confirmed by someone who has tried out the free play. I cannot imagine Steam would expose itself to false advertising claims, especially given the enormous download and possible associated costs with it.

It specifically says "first two levels of the campaign". Did you think they'd really let people play the full game for free barely a year after release? If you've already played the first level of the demo, personally I'd save yourself the download.

        • Sure, why not? The timed free play for BF4 was easily enough to play through the whole single player campaign of the game. No issues there.
As I mostly play single player and not online (I am probably in the minority though I admit) for me that timed free play was like playing the game for free and resulted in me not having to buy the game at all.

        • @Lysander:

Fair enough. I remember that and also downloaded and finished BF4 for free. I don't play MP either.

        • @MrZ:

          Cool. Have a great night.

  • It's only 58GB. Free weekends are an amazing feature/function that's popped up in the last year or two #thanksgabe

  • Doom is awesome, one of the best remakes of all time.

  • Believe this is PS4/Xbone as well.
