Hello dear friends :-)
Looking for HONEST feedback from any users of MintTelecom NBN HFC services in Perth Metro area of WA?
I live in Woodvale WA, and NBN is due to arrive within the next month or so to our home. We have been with IINET since late 1990's, and have no intention of staying with them as we switch to NBN (Should have switched our ISP years ago, never got around to it and I know how bad that sounds, but now will do just fine).
From trawling OzB and Whirlpool for NBN ISP info I had originally sold myself on trying AussieBroadband, but as it gets closer I have been interested in virtual carrier called MintTelecom. Looking at Whirlpool where their boss (Michael Speglic) wrote that they use a network run by the Vocus group (M2) . Michael worked for M2 on their exec team for 6 years, so I can see why he wanted to use their services.
Anyway. I have been on chat with them asking about how I go about getting connected with them when NBN finish their work in my area, and if they have a modem that I can use with my foxtel cable connection (HFC NBN connection). From the chat I was pleasantly surprised too, they seem very professional, though though the company is very young (The network that will be supplying the internet service is not young of course)
Our current IINET ADSL gives us download speeds topping around 650kb/s, and uploads about 60kb/s on a good day (7 km from exchange, and crappy copper lines).
I was looking at NBN 50/20 plan with 1.2Tb per month, VOIP service with local calls free, others paid (All we need)
Mint say that we cannot have 1.2Tb on HFC, even though I cannot see this on their site, they say that HFC is 1Tb or 100Gb only, for same price as FTTN of 1.2Tb service. Only downloads are counted.
Mint suggest that we look at their 25/5 instead of 50/20 (To save us money) as the HFC NBN connection will be close to actual rated speed and after being on 650kb/s they think we trying this speed will be cheaper for us and still knock our socks off.
Their contracts are 6 months only, not 2 years, so that is positive too, if you don't like them you can leave within 6 months.
Any feedback from the OzB community is welcome please
No experience with Mint Telecom, but I have a feeling you might be getting confused between Mb, Gb and Tb.
