Individual Butter Portions: Unsalted Variant Not Available?

Was looking for butter portions as keeping 250g blocks in the fridge for few days make it distasteful.

Found Western Star (7g*200), but it tastes like salted butter. I know there are other brands (Lurpak, Devondale etc) available, but which one comes in Unsalted flavor? Also, is there a difference between mini pack and tub version of the portions?

Thanks.

  • Salt reduced butter is often used for cooking purposes (e.g during baking, you're trying to keep the item sweet as opposed to salty) so it's not very often you see salt reduced butter sold in less than 250g quantities.

It would make more sense for them to be sold in big blocks and you simply cut what you need for the purpose.

Why not just portion them into ziplock bags? King Of Random on Youtube shows you how to split ziplock bags and even heat-seal them using a coat hanger trick.

Love that the video shows how to make nicely sealed bags of white powder at 3:35.

That's obviously where Cassie Sainsbury went wrong.

  • I am sure you can buy them, but I would imagine it might too exxy by weight for the average consumer.

Never heard of butter changing taste after few days in the fridge. Have you tried putting the block of butter in a sealed container or ziplock bag?

Most unsealed items in the fridge start to taste like "fridge" after a while…

Why keep the butter in the fridge when opened anyway? It goes rock hard, and lasts fine without going rancid at normal room temperature.

        • Indeed. Some people even store bread in the fridge which leads to it quickly going stale. :|
