EDIT: If you sign up for their newsletter you will receive a voucher for an additional 5% off. I unfortunately saw this about 2 minutes after i'd purchased mine (boo) Original 5% off for newsletter subscribers deal

Great price on the compact model too - model BMO625BSS. $114.05, next lowest price I can find elsewhere is $199.

Compact

I've been looking for a new microwave and saw that JB Hi-Fi is having a 1 day sale. This is by far the cheapest current price i've seen for these microwaves (Next lowest is about $309)

I've researched quite a few brands and although i've heard many people recommend Panasonic and Sharp i've found so many terrible reviews for models that meet the requirements i'm after that it put me off. These appear to have pretty decent reviews (For a microwave anyway)

Edit: Also wish to add that the black model was the number 1 rated microwave from choice.com.au 2016

Choice 2016

This is my first deal post so I apologize if I have left anything out or not written it correctly.

Great price, never seen them below $200.

You should get the black one and put white spots on it to match your avatar.

  • The black one looks cool. I like this style of micro

    • +1

Yeah I ended up going with the black, I love the design. Part of me is worried it won't match with my breville toaster oven that is silver but I liked the look of the black one (and I was too lazy to drive double the distance to the closest store with silver in stock)

    • Apart from the colour is there anything else different in the 2?

      • I originally thought that the silver one was white inside and the black stainless steel but they are both stainless steel. They are just different colours, no difference in functions etc.

  • +3

    Bought one too.
Any microwave that boasts being able to reheat baked beans must be a winner!

    • +1

      ya farty lovers?

  • +1

I have an earlier model of these. Easy to use and straightforward. I quite like it and for $160 or so is a great price. If only it was bigger for large roasts is all that's really missing. Cleaning the inside is also a bit difficult unless you do it every single time.

    • Who roasts in a microwave? You obviously… but why…?

      • +1

Because I realised this is not the same as the oven I have. Wrong product, my bad haha.

  • +3

Got a black one, thanks OP, great find !

  • Product Review website has mixed reviews :(

    • True, so weird that Choice Magazine loved it ??

      • any review to be taken with a pinch of salt, including Choice, I'm afraid.

    • +1

I find that all the popular ones have many negative reviews on product review. Remember though, you're likely seeing a large number of the small percentage who may be unhappy with it, a tiny portion of those who are happy with it and can be bothered doing a review.. and nothing from the other large majority!

Amazon shows some great reviews for the previous model which is BMO734, hopefully that's an indicator of the quality of this one as they look identical.

      • I have a panasonic with a dial and don't find it any less convenient.

edit. oops replied to the wrong comment.

  • +13

We have this oven. Do not recommend it for the following reasons:
    * It's loud. Very loud in comparison to our old one.
    * Usability with the knob looks cool but is a pain to use. A digital number pad is far quicker and more precise for quick cooking.
    * The timer, while good, is located inside the door so you need to open it, press a button, spin around to your time setting, hit go then shut the door.

    • +3

The timer, while good, is located inside the door so you need to open it, press a button, spin around to your time setting, hit go then shut the door.

      WTH?

Why would they design it like that?

    • +1

I have an Aldi microwave with a knob rather than number pad - never again!

    • Thanks, I won't be buying one now.

You're right the knob idea sucks, one of my work sites has one and I find it too fiddly compared to a digital number pad. But having a timing inside the door is a deal breaker for me.

That's a shame because I generally like Breville products.

    • you can hit the button in the middle for instant 30seconds, you can hit it a number of times if you need it longer. The good thing is if you want say 1min 20 you can hit it 3 times and turn the dial back 2 clicks.

    • I reckon Sharp Carousel is way more reliable than this breville.
I only like Their Rice Cooker though. The anti-sticky cooking pan is very useful and handy

  • damn it. just bought a new microwave and picking it up today.

tempted to get this and return the other but not sure if im being silly + effort.

got this one in $153 in white https://www.jbhifi.com.au/whitegoods-appliances/microwaves/p… Average retail is abut $200-$220.

How can I say no to $164 for a $300 RRP.

    Any thoughts?

  • Is it noisy?

    • +1

      YES!

Overall I like it, but hell its noisy!

  • Never tried Breville, but my Sharp R350J 1200 watt is still going strong after 13 years of daily use and still looks like new.

Nice and big too, can fit a whole chook in it.

Long time lurker, first time commenting.

I picked up this microwave about 2 months ago from JB Hi Fi for $240, so very good price.

I find it quite easy to use, but i also read the manual. Use it for rolled oats in the morning most mornings now.

I've also had success with the smart cook for cooking hard vegetable setting, you just put the weight in with a tbspn of water per hundred grams and it autocooks.

The noise doesn't bother me. I like the hum it makes, it's quite musical and I sing along to the frustration of others in the household.

Main downside is the microwave is too small to fit my set of large dinner plates. They're square, so fit inside but there isn't enough room to rotate. If I knew that before hand I probably wouldn't have bought it.

    • "If I knew that before hand I probably wouldn't have bought it."

The square plates, or the microwave?

Also, Which version microwave did you get, the 34L or the 25L compact?

      Congrats on your first comment!

Honest question, how is this better than a $50 K-Mart microwave?

I never really cook from scratch with a microwave, mostly just reheating or defrosting. I can't imagine needing to pay hundreds extra…?

    • +1

I had a good omni mocrowave that lasted me near 10 years from kmart then 2 that lasted just outside warranty. Went with a brand name microwave with good reviews this time so fingers crossed.
Guess its luck of the draw in the end but you would hope increased price equals increased reliability/quality

    • +1

Kmart microwave rocks! Have it at home for over 4 years now. It's way better than the LG we have at work. We only use it for reheating.. who would cook in a microwave anyways?

      • +1

Yeah I've gotta say 95% of our microwave use is reheating. Me personally it's for hot drinks in winter mostly. I can't remember the last time I cooked anything in a microwave from scratch!

  • One of the control dials on my unit is sometimes dicky and will set a much longer time when you only want to nuke a cuppa for a minute.

My folks have an LG, which has digital buttons etc for setting different things and I personally find using my unit a bit easier than theirs but of course I'm used to it so that's no doubt got a bit to do with it.

It is fairly noisy, makes a slight rattle when in operation so on that front it's a bit sub-par. I think the dial issue and the sound made indicates that the build quality isn't really up to snuff but overall, if it was cheap enough I think it's an ok unit.

We got ours from a closing down sale at one of the TGG, can't remember how much it was.

    • LOve my LG

  • +3

I got one 26 months ago and it failed last month. I've managed to have it replaced by Breville/HN for free. Love the looks of it. The writing on the time knob(START Instant +30) on the first one had faded out in the first 2 weeks. The new batches have the writing engraved. I do like the time knob and the fact that you can add extra time without having to stop the operation of the microwave.
The baked beans reheat function works nicely without making a mess and the sensor IQ works well too!
The timer is not loud enough and, as mentioned above, it's located inside the door(among the other shortcut buttons).
Overall it's a great microwave oven and for this price it's a BARGAIN!

rated only 2.9 stars by productreview.com.au

    • +3

Honestly i've been reading reviews for literally hours and every microwave that has been highly rated by reputable websites eg: choice have hundreds of negative reviews along with some fantastic ones on productreview. I have started taking it with a grain of salt because the reviews on Amazon (for the previous/overseas model anyway) are great, it's number one on choice.com.au 2016, the reviews on jb hi fi are great, i'm also -extremely- happy with my breville toaster oven so i'm happy to take the chance on this. I think it's like most things, you get reviews from the majority of people who are unhappy, 5 percent of the people who are happy and can be bothered reviewing it and 90% don't do anything because they're likely satisfied.

Hope I made the right choice anyway, but so far breville hasn't done me wrong :)

      • +1

Looks like I am plain unlucky.

Breville electric blankets - twice fail
Breville Glass kettle - twice fail

        Staying well clear :o)

        • Understandable! after so much research i'm starting to feel like products just aren't what they used to be lol. Seems no matter what products you're getting or how expensive it is there's a bunch of people who've had major issues with them :(

I bought the Glass kettle but i've yet to use it as i'm moving in to my new place on Friday, here's hoping it doesn't fail me too!

  • +1

Damn, just bought this from Myer via eBay for $242, delivered yesterday! What a shame. FYI it works well and looks nice, so nice to have a handle to open the door instead of a button.

  • +2

    Another owner here.

I will agree with what others have said - the rotary dial can be a pain. It is quite sensitive and it is easy to set it to 50 minutes instead of 5 minutes! Wife does not like it.

Reheat and set item heating is quite good, never had a drama there.

Ours tends to have a build up of condensation in the door, possibly it is not sealed completely.

As for noise I think it is okay. Parent's Sharp sounds like a jet taking off compared to this.

Would not buy another based solely on the rotary dial, keypad is much quicker and easier to use.

    • So should I buy it?

      • +3

After reading the feedback from owners I'm sure as heck not buying one.

      • Up to you.

It has worked well, cooks well. No problems there.

But, the rotary dial can be a pain. Considering you have to use that all the time (unless you do the preset 30sec cook) it is a sticking point.

        • +2

you can hit the 30second timer a few times if you need longer i think it goes by 30second increments up to 3 mins then it goes in 1min increments.

        • @phocus: there is also a programmable "favourite" button you can set up as you wish

    • Works for me I guess as the current microwave we have is a rotary dial. I can imagine it would be frustrating for those who aren't use to it.

Thanks for your review! i'm still very pleased with my purchase :D

Also glad that the new model has the writing engraved on the buttons unlike older ones so no need to worry about it rubbing off.

      • Thanks for the advice, I guess I will just wait for the next microwave Bargain :)

        • +1

JB hi-fi does have 20% off all microwaves with 5% extra off with the newsletter voucher, might be something else on the site worth looking at? there were a few others listed as "red hot deals" but not the size/power/design etc I was after :)

        • +1

          @Lunawinter: Thank you :)

  • +7

I have this microwave, it doesn't warm well, its noisey like an airplane and vibrates a lot. The controls are complicated and has multiple ways to defrost that arn't clear. Often times it heats food where the top is warm but the inside or bottom of the plate is cold. Inside gets wet easily, particularly inside the door. The wording on the buttons rubbed off in about 3 months. It only looks cool.

    • Thanks for the feedback, hopefully I don't have similar issues as i've also heard a lot that are also the contrary to what you've experienced. Shame you had so many issues.Thankfully they now engrave the writing on the buttons so it won't rub off now. Fingers crossed I have a good experience

  • Why different colour different Price

    • I find that it's quite common, I imagine cranberry is less popular so maybe they have more stock to get rid of and want to give more of an incentive for them to buy it over others.

    • Nobody wants the red ones.

  • +1

Thanks OP! I got it for $140.60! Using the 5% off code, then my sister's employee benefits gets her %7.5 off JB HIFI giftcards (with a $2 processing fee). That worked out to be $140.60!!!

    • +2

Wow what a bargain!! you're welcome :D enjoy!

    • +1

I got DJs to price match then paid with giftcards (acquired through AMEX deals around 20-30% off) got it for $163.07 (pricematch) but physically I only paid around $130 ;)

      • So they have done the price match including the 5% off ?

      • +1

@imaxsameer, bloody hell! I thought I was savvy!

  • 10% additional discount with the good guys price match ?

  • Was browsing the web and looking for reviews and came across Target who had this for $49 but sold out now.
No mention of that price on ozbargain.

    https://www.target.com.au/p/breville-bmo735bks-quick-touch-m…

    • O_o, what's up with that!

    • Price error

    • I bought this microwave 2 years back from David Jones and stacked it up with Amex offer then + Breville cashback.. came down to $150.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/222414#comment-3268481

Target seems to lower the price online when the stocks are not available anymore.
this is what I was told when called up customer care for stock check.

    • Yeah I saw that whilst researching prices, i've come across a couple of ridiculous discounts from Target while browsing at Microwaves, I imagine there was probably extremely limited stock. Would have been nice for that price eh?

  • +1

Why is this so popular? At this price you'd expect a real bargain to feature convection etc.

  • i guess i'll pass on this deal with the dial feed back. cant imagining my self fine tuning the dial in the morning to heat milk. Also the condensation on the door is a no no….it grows bacteria if it kept there!

any one recommend a microwave that gets rid of condensation with well ventilated fan?

  • That pic looks like a camera.

  • Thanks OP, purchased one in Stainless Steel :)

  • Stainless version to replace my Kogan, thanks OP

    • You're welcome! hope you like it :D

  • +2

its a really good microwave had it for a year now the glass is very transparent

    • Awesome, great to know. Thanks!

  • Thank you for this. Great deal. Grabbed one with the coupon.

    • You're welcome! enjoy it!

  • Thanks OP. Just bought one from Appliances Online who matched the price and then dropped it to $150. Great deal and even the call taker asked how they can sell it so cheap.

    • Nice one! yeah the staff at JB hi-fi seemed surprised by how cheap it was too, I called up in the morning and the guy was like "woah, that's a big discount"

  • +1

Thanks OP, bought a Black one for about $160 with the 5% off. We have a Black Breville Barista Express so this will match nicely.

  • Not expired yet.

  • Thanks to all who posted their experiences. Was rushing to buy it before deal expired so was going to be sight unseen. Have one now with a handle that we really don`t like and figure those knobs will also be difficult first thing.
    Will wait for another offer!

    • +1

Ours arrived today, the handle is very light to use compared to others with handles that I have used, the interior is all stainless steel and the rotary knobs are brain dead easy to use.
      Very happy so far.

      • +1

I can confirm that i'm also very happy with mine. The knob is not an issue at all, nor is the noise (it sounds like what I would expect). It heats amazingly so far with no random cold spots!

        • +2

Happy with mine too. Love it :) thx op :)

        • @cassini25:

Yay :D glad to hear! you're welcome!

  • Mine still hasn't shipped (silver model). Must be waiting on supplier!
