Help Me Decide: Sell iPhone 5s for $200- $300 and Buy a New Phone or Not

So I was wondering if I should sell my iPhone 5s for a reasonable price and then upgrade to a new phone, I don't really understand What B28 is so if I don't need it then that's good.

My Wishlist (doesn't have to have it):

  • Up to a 6 inch screen
  • Very good battery life
  • my budget would be $400-500
  • Decent camera

I would be using it for mostly everything except gaming.
Any recommendations are great TIA

EDIT: If you vote can you please tell me why I should do that option. Cheers

can you tell us what your iphone is lacking. TBH You can easily get a pretty good android phone at that budget. I don't know to much about iphone to know the differences at that price so would be good to know what you find lacking.

You can probably get better battery life, bigger screen, and probably equivelent to camera very easily at the price. I would only upgrade if you are not happy with your phone though because i suspect it should be able to already give you good performance.

    • Yeah hey it's more of a "this phone is feeling sluggish" you know as long as it's fast and snappy I'm fine.
I think this phone is dying and I really would like a upgrade so I can better performance for the price.
I just don't like this phone if you get what I mean

      • if you thinking android phones to consider would be

        motorola G5 -300-400
        lg G6/v20 -350-450

As these have had good deals recently and are reasonably well stocked. You would have to look at the camera reviews your self and photo examples to see if these would meet your needs. But they should tick the other boxes.

        • Meh camera isn't necessary anyway. But if someone buys my phone for $250 I would a Moto G5 be a good upgrade?

        • @Lockster: yes definitely. I think the camera is better anyways

        • @Gimli: ok tempting

        • @Gimli: what about Xiaomi?

        • @Lockster: xiaomi will get you a good phone for $200-300. Only main issue is that you don't have local warranty. If you are not fussed with that its a great value phone. But I think with good local phones at the 3-400 mark already I think xiaomi is no longer as appealing as it was 6-12 months ago but still one of the cheapest options out there.

        • @Gimli: Which xiaomi one would you recommend?

        • @Lockster: Sell your iPhone and get a Xiaomi for around $150~ which has a bigger screen and double the performance of your iPhone. And save your earnings to buy a Intel core 2 duo desktop~90 and add in a low profile graphics card(gt 710)$60~ to play CS(you actually should be able to play csgo pretty smooth on low settings(https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-zhdd4QnyLs):) Goodluck

        • @sagrules: Generally the note series because they have a better processor than the 4x

        • @BrodenIt: Legend. I'll think about it (I have a part time job, any chance you could recommend a pc around $200-400 that can play low-medium settings on most games?

        • @Lockster:
Probably this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/323968 (should be back in stock soon)
Definitely will be able to run CS in low fine not sure about medium but other computers with similar specs ran medium fine. If your going to put in a dedicated graphics card make sure it's going to fit and it will run games at a breeze.

        • @BrodenIt: u reckon I could transfer the parts into a $50 case and add a better PSU and then add a 1050ti?

        • @Lockster: That's possible but I don't recommend transferring the parts. If that's the case you might wanna look at the HP 8300 because it has much more space to fit a graphics card. The Dell probably only can support low profile cards but I'm not too sure about that maybe you might wanna ask here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/323968

        • @Lockster: I have a g5+ the camera takes reasonable photos imo. Good battery life charges at seasonable speed.

  • Also, remember iOS 11 which is released in September will not be available for the iPhone 5

    • Is that the same for the iphone 5S?

  • Get the Sony XA1, great built, good camera and well under budget.

    • Thanks for recommendation :)

get this iPhone SE ($429)… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/318746

    • Not bad if I went into Telstra would they trade my iPhone 5s?

I doubt they'd give you much for your iPhone 5s. You're better of selling it on scumtree or eBay.

The only thing with this iPhone SE is that it's 32Gb, and it's technically locked to Telstra. People have said it's a simple process to unlock via telstra chat. My handset was dead on arrival so i'm going to the apple store today for a replacement unit. I think it's a steal at $429… but i can see why it may not meet the needs of some people.

I'm with Telstra so I don't mind being locked

    • I found it to be a solid device. I had mine for about a year (just sold it as I want to go back to Android). It's fast and dependable and if you like the smaller 5s shape it's perfect.

Do it asap, the longer you wait, the value will drop, new iPhone is imminent.

  • Simple. Yolo
