does anyone know where to get a good ipad Chinese knock off. Heaps on ebay and dealextereme but hoping someone out there got one and can recommend.

The Model that has the Rockchip CPU is the only one that is recommended from Dealextreme.
The problem is that the rest are all underpowered and run like dogs..
Whirlpool might be a better place to ask this sort of info.
stay away from any that look like an iPad otherwise you can get in a lot of trouble from Apple/Customs.
You can probably get away with it though, just be aware that there is a risk.

Archos 10.1" 1024x600 Tablet $294us ARM Cortex A8 1Ghz, Android 2.2. 8/16Gb built in plus microSD, USB host, only thing missing is 3G (but you should be able to plug in a USB dongle, or just tether your phone).Other than that, in my professional opinion, you are better off waiting for Android 3.0 to be released before xmas. That version will fully support high-res displays. There will be plenty of awesome proper laptop replacement type tablets released early next year, that Archos one is the closest I've seen so far to one I'd actually buy at any price, and its a steal at 300USD.
I'm kinda looking for one too! I'd actually buy an iPad if I could run a different OS on it! ;)
The 10" Android knockoffs are going for under $200 now, and the 7" under the ton; so they're mighty tempting! Having read a few & watched a few youtube vid reviews of them though, they look pretty sketchy, so I'm not sure! :p
