TBH I think the thing's overrated, and I was an OG SSARPBC player (with the trophy time stamps to prove I'm not jumping on a bandwagon years later), but when I played it back when it dropped, I didn't touch the online. All I did is bots / local, and the Switch should honestly be the best place to do that. Drop a few frames here and there, I don't care, I get to take the sucker anywhere. I reckon it'll be right at home as a portable game.
You definitely need to give online a go. Bots become extremely predictable, even the "All Star" ones. And the fact that they can't aerial really restricts your defensive learning.
@niters: I probably will on Switch before paid online comes in, despite the fact if it's actually gonna be 20/25 a year I'll have online anyway. But for the most part, I just wanna play for fun here and there, I just enjoy driving and smashing into shit, I never got too into it so I never learned advanced maneuvers and whatnot.
I can do a backflip and turn on unlimited boost, I'm happy.
TBH my thinking it's overrated is equal parts "when I played it, there was less content than the one that preceded it" (which I believe is severely different nowadays), and "I never got into online so I'm probs missing out on the main bit", so I should really say it's main bit is not super appealing to me, not that I straight think it's overrated.
tl;dr I'll give it a go on Switch online, but I'm not really into online most of the time.
@TheDukeOfNukem: Hey, fair call! And thanks for clarifying. I completely understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea and I occasionally jump the gun on people when they say they play, or have played, it with the "omg what rank are you?" attitude. When realistically there are a lot of people that play it for a lot of different reasons.
