Netflix Tax Invoices - Google Play Subscriptions Vs Direct Website

Hi all,

Can anyone who subscribes through to netflix directly e.g. through the computer - comment on your monthly billing amounts - do you get an invoice with your address for the service etc (for tax invoice purposes)?

I only ask as I was not aware that signing up through your mobile phone netflix app caused it to add directly to google play subscriptions - kind of annoying and i wish they gave you a choice or asked you.

Doing so I've decided to pay through paypal (and therefore my amex card as it earns 1 point vs 0.5 point if you went to amex directly as netflix is classed an utility but not paypal supposedly), and unfortunately google play subscriptions don't tell you which credit card your paypal payment method pays through (as i have more than one credit card loaded to paypal).

Anyhow - the recent google play notification of me signing up is pretty lacklustre. Tells you about what you've signe dup but no address details or anything for tax purposes. I am on a free trial but wondering for anyone who has netflix directly billed, do your tax invoices come with your address details for the service??

FOr those who have been billed through google play subscriptions do you also have no tax invoice with address details? Only a monthly receipt of payment?

I just wanted to check before my free trial ended. We can cancel the subscription through google play and renew through netflix on a computer, but i didn't want to go through unnecessary work if either method didn't present proper tax invoices i.e. address details for billing purposes. Any help or feedback, or if anyone has screenshots of what they receive each month bills wise?

P.S. Does anyone know if we cancel the subscriptions 2 days into the free trial, can we resign up with the same details, email address etc. and restart the trial? or is it lost and i'm better off waiting until the near end of the first month subscription?

  • You can sign up using another email, and then change email in your account settings after signing up process is complete. So, you can sign up for another trial and use the same email. I hope it makes sense.

    • Would it not track that you have the same paypal or credit card attached to that new email address if you continously resign up?

And to avoid being charged must you cancel before the last day of the free trial, or if you go over by a day it will pro-rata refund the other 29 days anyway of the monthly fee?

  • +2

I just pay for Netflix through iTunes. That way i stock up on gift cards everytime its 30% off, so it's essentially 30% off or $13.30/m for 4 screens UHD

    • Am with android - i suppose there isn't any % deals for those, just apple?

      • I use android as well. You could technically do the same strategy on Google Play, but they dont go on sale as often, and not as much of a discount. It's easy enough downloading iTunes, starting an account and signing up for Netflix through there…it's literally an extra 1-2min out of your day to save 30% on average if you time your gift card purchasing correctly.

        • Yeah Google play gift cards haven't been in sale anywhere for awhile now this year afaik. I remember once seeing 40% off maybe.. once.

    • Where do you get iTunes for more than 15% off?

      • You'll actually be supprised to find that they go 20% off quite often, every now and then you'll see at 25% off at Kmart or Officeworks and even more rarely (but does happen), you'd find it at 30% off.

In any case, and what i'm trying to say is that i don't bite at the 10-15% off iTunes deals. Perhaps you are right and they have all changed their strategy this year…if i find anything in the coming weeks (as im almost due for a top up), i'll reply to this thread.
