It screams look at me I'm a tourist

why not just go the 65

…it's even cheaper than the 46 at $98.99…just spend $1.01 for free postage

What's the difference between the two? Both look the same, apparently.

      • size matters

46 is carry on. 65 isn't. Big difference.

        • good point

        • Actually I would be careful with this….it probably wouldn't be an issue but the dimensions are slightly larger than most Oz carriers allow. I wouldn't be concerned with qantas, or even Virgin despite them quoting 48cm max length ( this bag is 57cm) but with Tiger, I have seen them be very anal about dimensions

        • @slipperypete:
Valid. I have never flown Tiger, but I imagine they're like EasyJet/Ryanair and other ultra-budget airlines. I only know this bag is popular amongst carry-on enthusiasts. I have the Farpoint 40 instead, personally, as it actually has a structured harness.

          @slipperypete:
This is anecdotal but I have carried my Porter 46 onto quite a few Tiger flights and they've only ever cared about weight, not dimensions. I've put it into those size test frames out of curiosity and it easily fits in even when packed full because it just squashes down the 1 or 2 cm required, a small amount compared to the overall size of the bag.

Osprey have great warranty support too. My Porter is 6 years old and the receipt is long gone but I recently needed new zipper pulls and had new ones mailed out to me for free within days.

@slipperypete: I have taken porter 46 on Tiger as well as Air asia many times. Its perfect as a carry on.

    • I am so tempted my current old reliable bag is only maybe 30-40 L most likely 30 max so a 65 L bag would be a huge upgrade.

I actually found a Caribee Cadet 65 L one that is $12 more but looks like military camo. Decisions decisions.

Might look a little strange doing the groceries with the camo one but hey I'll be able to definitely carry more home clothes to and fro between places instead of just a few spare clothes and hydration.

  • A family member uses this bag and raves about it as they do carry-on only and never check luggage. I think it is technically a touch too big for QF and for some other airlines. But they have never had issues and backpacked around the Word (and then some). It seems to hold up to punishment well and is very light.

    • you are right…for the lightness they hold up really well

Lifetime warranty on Osprey gear as well.

Thanks for the link, that's a good review. The backpack looks enormous in that vid. I'd be hesitant to try taking it on a plane but everyone is saying it'll pass even the USA's stringent measurements/weight code.

  • I love this pack. Used it for a one-bag 3 month interstate trip and will be using it again for a few months in the US soon. It is a bit larger than Aus carry-on requirements but virgin and qf don't care.

Only downside for me was it's big enough for me to overpack very easily.

  • is it slash proof

    • +5

Can't think why anybody would want to p!ss on it apart from the colour..I bought one anyway..great price

      • like slash with a knife

    • +1

Depends if it's a Slash from Guns or Roses or not.

      • Another smart rectum.

Fantastic bag but not the most comfortable to carry on your back for long.

    • Yep can vouche for this. Hurt my back carrying around UK last year :/

    • +1

Was going to buy but after some research I found this to be a common complaint. I think the Farpoint 40 is better if one plans to backpack and wear it for long periods of time

    • This is our preferred as we get older for carry on http://shop.eaglecreek.com/load-warrior-carryon/d/1511C1537?…

      • Small capacity goes against it a bit and is it waterproof or just water resistant?

        • Don't happen to know of a larger carry-on wheeled bad that is that weight 2.2kg or less ? I find that with carry-on weight is more challenging that size. (We have on of the older models and it is water resistance … but very resistant. Having dragged it through the streets of many Euro cities in the dead of Winter I've never needed a cover for it)

        • @nonpop:
Thanks for that. Spoke to the boss and she doesn't want wheeled so the Osprey is what we'll get but the next size down from this the Osprey farpoint40 at $146 del, and for a bit extra you can get the waterproof pullover for it.

Going to Scotland in autumn for walks and hikes I think we might need it. Being over 60 too the lighter weight will suit I think.

  • Only 2 left. How many were there when you posted?

  • Just bought an 80L bag off eBay haha lol thanks to this post for $42.89 AUD free postage.. let's hope it sits comfy and doesn't fall apart. This will be my backup if the eBay knock off quickly falls apart.
