THL (Technology Happy Life) T9 Pro Smartphone

Yeah that's seriously what THL stands for….

Cost $112 (less 10% discount and 1.3% cashback)

5.5" screen, 2G RAM, 16G ROM, Android 6.0, Fingerprint sensor blah blah blah. (Everything except waterproof and wireless charging - so plug in to recharge outside of the bathtub)

Bought this for the wife as she's had a recurring problem with her CUBOT Note S recently where the sound drops out in a call and will only work on speaker phone. Given she's not 18 and (profanity) annoying she prefers talking to the person on the call rather than the people standing nearby I thought we'd replace and then try and fix it.

Interesting to note it has no capacitive android buttons and instead has software buttons in the build instead. Decent size battery compared to the Homtom HT17 Pro. Very clear call reception compared to the Cubot Note S too.

On the downside the camera seems a bit ordinary. Will check it out more over the weekend.

There were 4 software updates to install which gives a bit of hope the THL looks after bugs (or has a lot of them!) so the current build is like 5 July 2017!!

It's look and feel is crisp and fresh and although I'm also on Android 6 they've tweaked it a bit and it's nice to use. No sign of any Turnbullware.

I'm a bit jealous for the moment.

I've tried it but the big brands last longer and I dig using outdated phone technology

  • I had a THL and after about 12 months the top half inch of the screen or was it the bottom half inch of the screen: one of the above, stopped working, making it unusable. That's the only phone or tablet I've bought direct from China I've ever had a problem with. Even the $50 Doogee phone gave me no problems.

I would not buy a T9 because my Redmi Kate is still going strong and I am not going to buy another phone until I can achieve the golden ratio: B28 + NFC for under $200, give or take.

  • i'd like to hear more about the camera once you have done further testing.

  • Happy with China droids, but have had some problems. I think you need to have a backup phone available in case of trouble, or you might have long waits for repairs or replacements.
That said, I can replace my cheap phone every 2 years for a quarter of the price of similar leading brands, so it wins for value.

  • 2GB Ram and 16GB Rom are a little on the low side for 2017. Not saying you can't get by, but app/website devs are making their programs more resource intensive which may affect performance.
I bought my Moto X Style for ~$400 and I'm pretty happy with it. I'm also willing to pay more for a phone as it is something I use every day, often for several hours.

    • Point taken re the spec, but for $200 you can have your spec from China. I stick to the theory of what someone paid $1000 for 18 months ago, I'll happily have for $100 today.

  • So you reckon it's better than HT17 (which I've had a whole week!
Which site did you buy from Mr G?

    • +1

Nah, just trying another brand. My daughter cracked her screen and we're replacing with a HT17Pro. :-)
