Credit Default Placed by Vodafone - Removal Suggestions

My details were recently default listed by Vodafone , as I did not pay my final bill.

The reason I did not pay my final bill was I changed my address and did not receive bills or demand letters.
Gone to TIO, they can’t really help as it was my responsibility to update address .

Any suggestion how can I fix this ?

Have you tried explaining to Vodafone and asking them to remove it?

    • yes, they are difficult to deal with

  • as I did not pay my final bill.

did you pay the last invoice?

no not yet, I told them I wont pay if they don't agree to remove default

Bahaha, you have no bargaining power in this situation. It was your fault you didn't pay. Full stop.

You are holding THEM to ransom? Good luck with that. Until you pay the bill every contact with them is probably just digging yourself a deeper hole.

You have no bargaining power. The default does more damage to you than the lack of $100 or however much your bill is does to them.

  • I am surprised they did not contact you via email also. You did not receive any payments notices over email? Seems very old fashioned to only receive this via post.

  • Pay the final bill and then contact Vodafone, as they are the only ones that can remove it.

No, they can mark it as paid but once it's gone to Veda, it can only be removed from a credit file if it was done in error

      • Fair enough. I reckon there are exceptions to the rule and they could remove it if they wanted, but in this case seeing as the OP is at fault for not updating their address, I doubt they would.

Pay it before it becomes a court judgement

    • They might just get debt collectors involved?

What does moving have to do with paying your bills ? Did your expectation of paying the final bill disappear with your move or something ? Just because you didnt receive a piece of paper, doesnt mean you werent paying the bill monthly for the previous months, and you just happen to forget to pay your final bill.

Call them, explain you were very stupid, it is entirely your fault, pay your bill, then they will remove the default, however the late payment will remain on your credit report.

The reason the TIO cannot help you, is cause vodafone did nothing wrong, the fault is entirely with you.

It's a long shot, but you can lodge a request with Veda to have it investigated. Vodafone have to show Veda that they did send you the overdue payment letters and the like, and if they can't (or don't) do so in the 30 days Veda give them, it will usually be removed from your credit file.

I'd also be sure to include in the request that Vodafone had your email address and phone number, and didn't contact you on either (Assuming that was the case)

Note - this is only going to work once the account has been paid off

    • helpful advise , thanks

      • No worries.

I had a similar situation with an electricity provider when I last moved house. They knew my new address (Because I connected a new service with them at the new house) - but they kept sending the old bill to my old address. I lodged a request with Veda, and they removed it saying that the provider never responded to their requests for proof so it automatically got removed.

    • it was listed as Dan and Bradstreet only , not Veda

      • ahh damn. Still might be worth a shot as they still have to prove they send you overdue notices. Might or might not work, but definitely worth following up if all else fails!

Did you change your address or did you forget ? The TIO are correct it is your responsibility.

Perhaps get your bills via email from now on so this doesn't happen again.

  • Perhaps get your bills via email from now on so this doesn't happen again.

Probably less likely to find them …

  • Pay it immediately, to avoijd further issues with credit as suggested, and then approach Vodafone, not that they are easy to deal with.

  • The longer you leave it the more defaults you will occur, just pay it as it is your error.
The default will not be removed but if you need finance for anything you can explain it.

  • Contact bad credit remove service. May cost you a lot more than your final bills but it may help you. My wife learned it hard way when paid the bill and they did not want to remove the bad credit
