Hi all,
I am after a Xiaomi phone under AUD400 with the best camera.
Would the Mi5 be the best option for that? And which variant of Mi5 is actually the best?
Cheers,
Hi all,
I am after a Xiaomi phone under AUD400 with the best camera.
Would the Mi5 be the best option for that? And which variant of Mi5 is actually the best?
Cheers,
short answer, yes.
I bought Mi5 thinking the same. The camera is alright. But I have had so many issues with the phone. I will never buy Xiaomi again
Could you please elaborate the issues? The main ones if there are too many :-)
I have used Mi device and very happy with it.
Well for starters, it bricked within 2 months. I was on a call while connected to handsfree in the car. I have been having issues with the phone rebooting while connected to the handsfree - not sure if this was a bluetooth related issue. So again, this time it rebooted and never came back online.
Sent the phone to Geekbuying (I bought it from them) - they spent 2 months just to flash it and send it back - I could have done this in a day or two. I wanted to keep my data intact. So that was a waste of money and time
So again, 4 months later, I am having frequent call disconnections - when I am on a call, it just randomly disconnects. And it doesn't let you make or receive the call until it is rebooted. Have never been so frustrated with a phone. As we speak, I am flashing it (yet again, for the 100th time maybe) to an older firmware to see if that fixes anything.
It's just too much pain in the a**. Buy a decent phone even if it costs a couple of hundred dollars more. My 2 cents
Wow … that's bad … hope that's a bad batch instead of Mi5 in general.
Did you have ransom-ware firmware? Those were going around and I received one with it from GearBest… vendors are the worst.
After I got bootloader unlocked and reflashed all those problems mentioned above went away.
@Synticulous: I have installed the firmware from Xiaomi's official website. I just flashed it again yesterday using fastboot process. Still facing the same issues. It's so frustrating
Also if anyone has Mi5s plus which has dual rear camera. I would like to hear some feedback. thanks.
Mi5 is probably best camera for the price. Has OIS which others don't. Really nice colour rendition. Low light not quite on par with nexus/pixel/galaxy but definitely not budget.
Mi5S has the same camera module as Pixel but noise reduction doesn't quite match the HDR of the pixels
Mi5S plus has the dual camera setup. More versatile with the monochrome sensor but straight up image quality not as good as Mi5S
Might be harded to get the Mi5S range for $400 whereas the Mi5 can be had for $270-300 - easily the best phone at that price bracket.
Thanks aNoPHeLeS. I am even more leaning toward Mi5 now. Now do you know if those that come with glass or ceramic actually differs in performance etc?
Its all for show imo! Ceramic is nice, harder than glass, less likely to scratch. But then everyone puts a case on anyway! I think the ceramic was just a more premium version of the 128gb from memory. But only in materials, not in performance.
I think if I remember correctly, they slightly downclocked teh 32gb Mi5 compared to the 64 and 128gb versions. Nothing noticable in real life though
What about the Zenfone 3 Zoom? Has dual cameras with optical zoom… It looks like it got some positive reviews

and this review gave it 3.5 star originally but improved it to 4 stars after a SW update.

It is about personal preference but I really want MIUI. I have tried different custom ROM and MIUI is what I like the most. Actually I chose Xiaomi instead of going with LeCo for example, is because of the ROM. They show that they have good support for the ROM.
Spend a bit more and get a s7.
The s7's rear camera is beautiful.
