How to Import The OnePlus 5?

Hey all,

I am pretty sure i want to go with the onplus 5 but can't decide whether the freight forward from oneplus or go with an ebay seller?

Going with oneplus may make the warranty process smoother but i won't be able to take advantage of any price protection when a 15% off code comes along.

Also I am a little concerned of dodgy stock from an ebay seller.

Has anyone had any experience with importing a oneplus 5 from ebay?

Thanks :)

Check out the Whirlpool thread. Still fairly new but I'm sure the people there who have ordered will report back on their experiences.

  • EBAY oneplus5 from dick smith or kogan (same company now) is probably safest since they have warranty that is covered in South Melbourne. Easier than returning it to overseas and having the chance of it not coming back.

    DickSmith

    Kogan

Kogan might not have a too good of a rep but they have honored my warranty for several devices that i bought from them.

    • Good points but going direct with Oneplus should be only 660 or so compared to kogan's 794

      • Yes but Oneplus does not sell to Australia directly and you have to go through forwarders and or third party sellers.

The main issue for you using a forwarder for the slightly cheaper price is sacrificing the warranty. Oneplus will not honor the warranty from Australia as it does not sell directly to here, AFAIK Kogan is probably the least problematic reseller as they have an actual office here in the country. From kogans website its 759

It is strange how OnePLus is not selling to OZ though despite the OP5 having the necessary frequency for 4G (band 28 700Mhz). I guess telstra/optus hasn't made a deal with them).

        • Understood but as long as you ship the unit back to their office what so they care?

        • Also I don't really trust kogan. It took me six weeks for them to accept a return of a broken juicer new in box. Bad history.

  • From OnePlus website

OnePlus phones purchased on oneplus.net come with a 1-year limited warranty, starting from the date of delivery. Unless otherwise specified, this warranty covers the hardware components of the Product as originally supplied and does not cover, or partially covers, software, consumable items, or accessories even if packaged or sold together with the Product.

This warranty is only redeemable within the original country or region of purchase.

The limited warranty only covers product defects caused by workmanship or build materials. To make a claim, please present your original Proof of Purchase (invoice), model and serial number of your product, and photographic evidence of the product’s defects to OnePlus Customer Service at https://oneplus.net/support.
OnePlus may use rebuilt, reconditioned or new parts and components when repairing any product. Alternatively, we may replace the defective product entirely with a rebuilt, reconditioned or new OnePlus product.

There have been so many threads on reddit, XDA, etc, they will not honour warranty from a country they do not sell to. It was stated that they do not have international warranty.

    • But how would they know if I ship it back to the US?

      • Where would they return it to? They won't ship it back to australia directly…. If you buy it direct from US, you will need to provide a US address for oneplus to ship it to, which in this case will be a warehouse or PO BOX of the Forwarding company which is a separate company that will receive it and then ship it out to you.

The forwarding companies are not a return point for warranty, they are just a regular mail/courier service, unless the forwarding company staff is going to do your RMA for you.

Up to you though, just trying to save you extra cost and headache since you will have to go through a third party mail/courier company.

  • I bought mine from eBay recently, 128GB Midnight Black model A5000 for $680 using 10% coupon. Was $768 before coupon applied, comes with 1 year warranty and if you have any issues with it you just send it back to the seller with the RMA number and they do the rest.

Much cheaper than ordering off OnePlus website as you still have to pay for forwarding and it comes to $750+, plus you still don't get covered by warranty if you buy it from OnePlus officially…
