Woolworths Gave Me a $100 Gift Card Due to Their System Outage

Hey,

Woolworths have been having serious issues with their ordering system over the last couple of days and haven't been able to deliver orders. I myself have tried for two consecutive days to have my order delivered, only to have it cancelled today.

Well, Woollies just sent me an email apologizing, and gave me a $100 gift card. I almost didn't read far down enough into the email, figuring it was just a generic "We Sorry, please forgive us" type thing. Pretty nice gesture since they dropped the ball.

Here's the email they just sent me

Interesting, I was fully expecting to read "to receive this eGift card please send an email to [email protected] with your name, address, date of birth, credit card number, social security number, mothers maiden name and the name of your first crush"

What is your typical weekly Woolworths online spend?

    • +1

It's about $1800 since the start of the year, which i don't think is a crazy amount.

      • +1

        you mean $1800 * 4 = $7200 per month?

        • +6

          No, sorry, $1800 for the year, so we're roughly 27 weeks into 2017, $1800 / 27 = $67 per week approx

Gift card amount isn't tied to spending habits.

“As well as a full refund we will be reaching out to each of these customers personally and will be compensating them with a $100 eGift card for the major inconvenience caused.”

      news.com.au article

  • I cancelled mine yesterday, but I didn't receive the email.

  • On top of a refund or was the giftcard the refund?

    • +2

Sounds like they got a refund because the order was cancelled, then they got $100 gift cards.

      • +2

Correct. Order cancelled and refunded, plus $100 gift card. I gotta say, that's a pretty big gesture from Woolworths to give everyone $100. There must be a lot of orders over a day or two day or maybe even three day period. I made my order on Saturday and it only got cancelled today. Who knows how many people were affected nationwide.

I'm sure if your circumstances were different to mine, and you were seriously inconvenienced by this you'd be super pissed, but I'm pretty happy with this gesture.

    Good result!

  • Really impressed with Woolies response on this one. The lady at the counter was SO apologetic, and it was obvious that she'd been harassed a fair bit over the course of the day. I contacted them via FB to ask how refunds would work since I had paid with an e-gift card and they responded quickly, and then to get a follow up email with the promise of a gift card was great - like you I was expecting a "We're sorry, and it won't happen again!" type email.

    SPAM

  • That's very generous of them!!

  • I got a $15.50 refund to my Paypal today with this email

I have no idea why though, no explanation was given. I didn't overpay for anything to my knowledge.

    • Nevermind, my order arrived today missing $15.50 worth of items. Then they messed up the order not delivering sausages and when I rang them they refunded me the wrong amount (short changed me). Worst experience so far with Woolies.

      • Yeah sometimes they don't have items or forget items but they will refund you the amount. Sometimes even compensate you extra for the inconvenience like in my case.

        • They refunded me for sausages not delivered but only refunded $6.95 despite me paying $8.00 for them.

Obviously I'm not going to kick up a fuss over $1.05 but it was a lousy experience. After all the things not delivered I still got $30 off the original price so that more than makes up for the $1.05 they kept.
