Gaming Desktop Recommendations

Hey guys,

Hope everyone is doing well..

Recently I've been thinking about getting a new Gaming Desktop…I last bought my desktop back in 2013, so i've been out of the market for a very long time and haven't been paying much attention to the latest techs…

My budget is around $850-$1,200..

I mainly play Overwatch/Player Unknown's battlegrounds..

Are any of these ones bang for the buck - http://www.msy.com.au/SYSTEMS/primegt.pdf

Thanks!

P.S. Need wireless card to for wifi…

I'd probably look for systems with an i5 if you want to get some life from the system. For example - https://www.computeralliance.com.au/systems?sysid=419

    • Hey buddy, thanks for this I will go through them!

      • They are in Brisbane but there will be other companies in Sydney similar to them, I just don't know the market there real well. Good luck.

Just spent a few minutes on PartPicker and came up with this. Can save some money on a few bits but dont cheap on the GPU and Ryzen is best bang for buck CPU atm.

    • hey mate, thanks for the recommendation! The CPU looks great but graphic card wise I don't think I will need to be that good. Any other recommendations?

      • Well… in the $115 dollar range, the GT 1030 is a card that would handle all your basic e-Sport games like Counter-Strike, Overwatch and Dota.

I don't know about PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds since I don't play that game, but GT 1030 is a lower end card that rivals the old 750 Ti and is considered 'OK' for 1080p gaming on lower end titles.

The GTX 1050 Ti is probably a much better purchase over the 1030.

      • Yeah, you can definitely trim a few edges. I was just working on the $1200 number. As per Scrimshaw, 1050ti would suffice, but for a $100 more you get so much more beef and would make you just that little bit more future proof, who knows what game you will play in a years time. Dont forget to factor in an OS.

I'm also in the process of a build and I'm currently $4-5k in doing stupid stuff like custom Watercool and 1080ti etc, and what game do I play … Dota. My logic is if I build it, I'll play more AAA games.

    • Ryzen is not the best bang for buck for games. Games are the one area where Intel is beating Ryzen.

  • Battlegrounds is quite high demanding as the optimisation is poor. The game will run much smoother after its release (so you may not need a PC upgrade).
But if you have your mind already set on an upgrade, I would wait a few more months and save a few more bucks and look at building an i5 7500/GTX 1060 system with 16gb ram.
The GTX1070 seems to be the best value for money GPU IMO if you can get one sub $600 (which is unlikely at the moment due to everyones interest in mining)

  • Here's an option closer to the lower end of your budget, but still with quality components.
