Cheap Sonos Controller Needed

I need a reasonable priced phone for a Sonos controller. I have a work phone which I really no longer want to use for this. I have a first generation play 5.

Ideally Adroid but I would consider Apple although I have never used it. I may also use it with the line in to stream audio from Youtube.

Any help is appreciated.

Sorry to rant on your post but why do people say " I want <whatever> reasonably priced/cheap" and never specify a budget or what they consider reasonably priced.

Anyway I'd personally look at something like a used 3rd Gen iPad mini with a little stand you can keep it on always charging. I'm about to invest in one for my home theatre system that way I can ensure the correct apps are on it.

Alternatively you could pick up a similar android tablet. Eg https://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/samsung-galaxy-tab-…

  • You can get a pendo pad or the likes of shitty android tablet for $50 from Target/BigW/Kmart that will be terrible but function well enough to just run the app. Can probably do cheaper buying off Gearbest/Aliexpress. But if you can afford more then I'd get something decent like an older ipad

  • Sorry knick007 but I honestly have no idea about prices. I want something that will do what I need with little issues.

I have a phone that work provides me with but just wanting to separate everything.
Other than that I have an old nokia which can't do anything. I have no real interest in technology other than just knowing enough to do what I want.

I guess it really only has to run the sonos app. As I can plug in my laptop for youtube if needed.

    • It's nothing personal. There are so many that do it.

Anyway I'd say go for a decent tablet. Those $80 ones are the biggest heap of crap. I was helping at a event where they were being used attached to barcode scanners. Horrid to
Use…Slow af for the simplest of tasks.

I wouldn't even bother. Buy a decent branded one for like $200

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro ~$200 or less.

There are 2 variants, Kenzo & Kate (inteernational), Kenzo does not have band 28 which is a mobile band which increases network performance on Telstra and Optus.

Nice bright 5.5" screen, iOS-like MIUI Android (copying Apple is Xiaomi's thing), mid range Snapdragon SoC so it doesn't chug along as far as app performance.

  • iPad mini. I use my iPad mini gen 1 for the exact same purpose.

  • Thanks everyone I have ended up using a cheap android phone, its doing the job.
