  • I was going to post this in the forums, anyway..

These are pretty good and an everyday price. I find myself always grabbing a few going through the checkout.

    mmm chocoair :)

I saw these today at Aldi. They are a lot cheaper than those fundraising chocolates at work.

These knock-offs of the big brands are actually pretty good. I like the Bounty knock off especially.

    • mmmm i like the fake bounty!!!!!

      • +9

+1 for the bounty clone….however, the Aero clone is sub-optimal, very floury.

29 cents just demonstrates how much be have been getting screwed by the mars/cadbury lines….~600% higher RRP.

        • Not to mention the incredible markups retailers make on big brands…

-ve for chocolate being bad for you

—==insert relavent biased article sourced from conspiracy website here=-

(those unsure to what i am referring to see the free coke zero post)

coke zero can give you cancer ye know

  • Funsize?

    • no they are the same as the branded standard bars.

      That's what I call my girlfriend's 12A breasts.

      • HI GUYS I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND WITH BOOBIES

        • I think the joke went over your head and you took it personally that he's trying to rub it in your face the he has a partner and you don't/won't.

          • +2

@lazed: Haven't tried Aldi chocolates, but sounds like Broden
should grab a handful for his girlfriend, perhaps she'll give him a bar…

    • they are about 40g each bar.

I've been buying these for a while.. great with a coffee in the morning.
    they are pretty damn tasty.

a guy at aldi said they weren't making money off them.. i didn't ask further.

to be honest, i've gotten some which looked slighty inbred.. but still tasted fine.
    mmmm.. incestual chocolate bars.

This just shows us what a rip-off coles and woollies are. Lack of competition results in high prices. The other one franklins is a joke, as only something on special can match woollies and coles normal prices. There is another one, iga, same like franklins, unfortunately.

    • +2

Sort of. We're not privy to what wholesale prices Coles/Woolies pay for big brand chocolate bars but I'd imagine it'd be a lot higher than what Aldi pay for these imported no-name brands.

      • +1

        Are they imported?

        • I've bought chocolate from Aldi before. What I bought was imported.

      • +2

I doubt they're imported. At least for my weekly shop, more of the Aldi stuff is Aussie made than in Woolworths.

  • +1

No wonder the big brands can afford to sell at 1/2 price in Coles and Woolworths

    Damn I love this website!

But with high gi/low nutritional food selling so cheaply, no wonder people are getting so fat these days.

[edit] oops didn't wee the post above before I posted
    .

I'm sure it's profitable, say it's a 29c for a 40g bar. That's $1.45 for a pack of 200g, a similar price to cheap chocolate biscuits. You can get some pretty cheap home brand violet crumble things from Coles too, so they are capable of doing this if they wanted to, but they don't wanna.

So, romeo = bounty?; jive = twix?; Racer = snickers?; dreamy = mars bar?; choco air = aero?
My guess from the pix. Anyone can confirm? I am not a regular Aldi shopper but i really love Toffifee from them.

    • +1

Pretty much. The varieties I've tried are pretty good too - Just ate a Racer! More nougat than a Snickers (both are good for different reasons, Snickers for the nuts/caramel).

They used to be ~60c at Aldi but for some reason they reduced the regular price further a few weeks back (to thoughtfully save us even more money!). Crazy not to try them if you have an Aldi near you.

    • +1

Dreamy = Milky Way, Titan is the same as a Mars but that sells for 60c…

They also sell a cherry bar for 60c which I guess = cherry ripe? Not tried the cherry yet but the others are great!

I think they dropped their price because woolies introduced their own chocolate bars at 60c also…

"Not sure of the quality, but for 29c I’m going to find out."
    you and me both.

  • Is the Jive a Twix knockoff?

I've tried some other Dairy Fine choccies before as leagues clubs tend have these out as complimentary sweets. They tend to be harder and have a more "white sugar" taste to them.

  • I think there from germany:

"The German manufacturer [Ludwig Schokolade] had been making chocolate-covered coconut bars for British supermarkets from 1990, including the Romeo bar for Aldi"

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/foodanddrink/foodanddrinknews/577…

    • Really, who knows… we are not the UK. And Aldi do like to sell Aussie.

  • Are Aldi still a normal retailer, or can you shop online with them now too?

  • put a donk on it!

  • they tasted ok, for 29cents!!

  • Has anyone compared the energy content of these chocolate bars compared with local chocolate bars?

I compared the energy content on some chocolate blocks and was a little surprised it was much more for the particular Aldi blocks that I got.

I'm wondering if it was a mistake or just those chocolates that I got.

    • I didn't look at the numbers, but I would concur! I had a couple tonight & it feels like my BSL has gone so high insulin is gonna pour out my ears!!! :o

I don't think I'm gonna be wanting any more chocky for a few months now, I'm buzzing; take my advice guys, ration 'em out if you've got 'em! :p

  • +1

These choco bars taste identical to the branded ones. slight difference. but at 29c i know what I am going to buy.

But please. just because they are cheap doesnt mean you have to eat them in bulk.

    • If they are like what I bought, it's not just bulk :P

At 2+ times the regular energy levels (the ones I bought seemed higher in creams or something which could be the cause) you might be wanting to break them into smaller pieces :P
