Alternative to Audio Technica ATH 40x or over Ear or on Ear Headphones

I purchased Audio Technica ATH-M40x online ebay . I'm happy with the music quality but i felt bit heavy, also my ears feel stuffed and uncomfortable to my ears and also getting hot after sometime. This is my first over ear headphone so dont know is it common.

Are there any alternative with over ear or on ear with in similar price range i.e. <100-125 from within AU or from amazon.

Please suggest.

  • I think you will get that with a lot of over ear headphones - I have the ATH 50x and get the same thing - but you get used to it and I don't notice it anymore. I just take a break - they probably aren't for sitting on your ears for hours and hours.

Wait for something new and with a bit of hype about it and purchase it elsewhere. you wont have to wait and it'll be cheaper.

Or scour the head-fi forums, maybe some of the chinese manufacturer threads.

Amazon.co.uk is sometimes pretty good for price as they remove VAT.

Pretty common, especially for the closed back style. If they are just for tooling around at home try an open style, but they are no good for loud areas or around other people, as they have a lot of sound leakage both to the listener and to anyone else around.

Store DJ in the valley will have display pairs you can try, including audio technica. Check it out there and order online.

    Worth saving up for.
Cannot remember the last time I used my ATH50x.
With Samsung taking over AKG,purchased a second K712 earlier in the year.

  • Sennheiser 558's

Extremely comfy but open-back with a more natural sound rather then the bass-heavy M40x/M50x
