Recommend me a – Retro emulation TV box

I've got the MiBox3 and set it all up for retro console emulation.
My brother liked the set up and wanted one but hopefully cheaper.

Needs to have:
  • wifi
  • ideally multiple ports for controllers (at 2 for controllers and one for usb storage)
  • to still be responsive and enjoyable to use/navigate
  • expandable (usb is fine)
Doesn't need:
  • 4k
  • ethernet
  • super high specs

Can anyone recommend a cheap tv box with the main purpose of old console emulation?
Looking to play from NES/Sega Master System up to PS1/N64 (no Sega DC or 3DO)

Can anyone suggest a box that is cheap and will happily handle the lower end emulation?
Would this do the job? Anything cheaper?

Don't want to go the RPi route.

  • I made my own with an Orange Pi (cheaper than a raspberry pi) and this http://www.retrorangepi.org/

    • Cheers, but the reason I'm avoiding the pie is that my bro aint so tech minded.
Even if I set it all up for him, any future trouble shooting would be a major chore.

  • +1

Just get another Mi Box. There's no better bang for your buck so anything you get cheaper will be significantly worse and I'd guess you'll regret it.

Jump at the next deal posted here. It's your best option.

    • I think you're right.
      Cheers

  • Did you set up all your emulators through Retroarch and then just use a USB splitter/hub for multiple controllers?

    • I've had a stack of problems getting my Bluetooth gamepads recognised in the latest retroarch. I downgraded retroarch to 1.3.6 and got it to work from there. I am using a 4 port usb hub. Storage, wireless keyboard + mouse and one spare port.

      • I also had issues with it and got to the point of just giving up using the box for emulators. I was trying to use Xbox 360 controller's though. I went back to Retropie. Might try the earlier version as suggested. Thanks.
