Hi there every one, i just posted a bargain for a FHD tv on special for $299, but am thinking is it worth buying FHD tvs still as there are so much UHD tvs coming up. We have a FHD tv at the moment at it works great, dont know if it makes a great difference for UHD or no. As i have read that the tv channels are not 4k only specific movies are, is that true? If so then will it b ok to buy a FHD tv for some years bcoz we not going to buy new tv every couple of years. Hope my question makes sense. Thanks to all
How Is It to Buy FHD TV in This Time of UHD TVs?
Comments
Thanks for the reply, that looks good too, but what about good companies like samsung or lg etc FHD tv vs kogan, soniq etc 4K tvs?? Bcoz some say that kogan soniq tcl tvs are not as good, the picture and all those technical stuff, so instead of a 4K cheap tv would it b worth buying a FHD good brand tv??
Definitely a good quality FHD over a cheap 4k/FHD imo.
I was just talking about cheap TV's only.
Oo yep got it, thanks
Fine.
I'd be asking what kind of content can I currently get in 4k before buying one. As my internet connection isn't fast enough to stream 4k and I don't have any interest in 4k gaming, there's no point for me to get one.
If however, these variables are different for you, by all means, get a 4k TV!
Good point thanks
There are very few 4K sources, and that's not likely to change in the foreseeable. In addition, for your general TV size, viewing distance, and eyes, you won't notice the extra resolution.
What is more interesting is HDR and having a better dynamic range. If you can get the HDR source then you do see the difference. If.
If you are looking at the bargain end of the market, then for the same money the FHD is likely to be a better screen than the 4K. However if you move up to the midrange then that's likely to be reversed (nobody is developing new FHD screens).
Frankly, having smarts built in is more likely to be useful to most people.
Depends on viewing distance, TV size, your eyes and the content. When you are walking around a shop a couple of feet from the demo videos the difference is stark, but my personal experience (55" TV sitting around 3 meters away) is there is basically not much difference between 4k and 1080p.
Interesting question. To determine the answer your need to ask yourself a few questions.
1) Can my internet connection sustain a speed of 24mbps? If not, then you can safely say 4K is not able to be streamed via Netflix etc.
If you live, or are likely to live, in an NBN connected area, that's a different story.
2) Will I buy/rent 4K UHD discs? If not, there's no point buying a 4K tv.
Sure you can download a 4K movie, but it'll take a while. Maybe a good day or two.
Check out this graph to determine your viewing distance, and if an UHD television is worth it.
These are very good points however I would like to also add:
3) Will you be playing XBOX One S (or Scorpio true 4K gaming console released in Nov) as this supports 4K? (Recommended 4K HDR 4:4:4 @ 60p TV)
4) Will you be playing PC Games as now there is support for 4K? (Recommended 4K HDR 4:4:4 @ 60p TV)
Cheers
Thanks to all, so far what i got is if im after gaming and watching new movies and ofcourse viewing distance too then definetly get an UHD otherwise just for normal tv watching FHD would b ok.
took years for everything to go FHD once they came out will take same again to go 4k
I bought a HD plasma TV in 2005 so it was close to ten years before the main FTA channels became FHD. So I'll be waiting another 10 years for UHD?
Most free-to-air digital TV channels are not FHD as they are broadcast in 576i. In fact, even the HD channels (e.g. 7 Mate, 9HD) are not Full HD because they are broadcast in 1080i rather than 1080p.
That's what I thought so then they've been out for 12 years and we're still waiting for FHD
Everything uses 4K now except the Switch and Foxtel box, but they are relics of the past really. Anyone telling you otherwise is outright lying.

These type of site say live streaming tv channels r not 4k yet
If you need a new big screen TV now but can't afford to buy an OLED HDR TV, then I'd most definitely recommend getting an FHD TV if you can still find one.
Very happy with my decision to buy a Sony factory second 55" FHD TV for $719 (offset further by $12 from Cashrewards). This will buy me enough time to wait for a price drop in OLED HDR screens.
Thanks will consider ur advice
There's currently no stock though. Got it on one of eBay's 20% off sales.
It's the same one The Good Guys are selling for $1,095.
I think you have to think about your intended use. I bought a 40 and 42 last year and was fine with fhd as my usage was mainly playing files off a laptop (ie. 720 or fhd) and console and pc.
I have no need for more than fhd on pc and i dont want to invest in a ps4pro or scorpio so to me, 4k isnt worth it right now.
1080p is fine but Might aswell go for a 4k if you are after a new tv.
Main thing for 4K right now is console gaming on ps4 pro and the new xbox one x and netflix/stan 4k streaming if you have the Internet speed.
If i was buying a new TV right now instead of yours for $299 i'd go for Kogan's 43" 4K for $389 This
neither are very good brands but $89 for 4k sounds good to me.
