Advantage of buying Xiaomi product at official Xiaomi store in China?

Hey guys,

Currently in China and at a Xiaomi store. Have been looking at getting a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x for some time but have held of due to rationally thinking that I don't need a new phone (currently using a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2).

Besides not having to wait for delivery and any slight concerns of authenticity (compared to buying off Aliexpress), are there any other benefits of buying from here?

I'm also a bit hesitant due to the lack of band 28 as I roughly understand future expansion is expected to be mostly on band 28. Also didn't realise there were so many different variants of even Redmi Note 4Xs!

Thanks in advance

I'd say another advantage is you're not going to have to pay shipping or a reseller's markup. As for B28 … doesn't bother me cause I'm not a cotton farmer.

    • I'm thinking future proofing wise from what I've read here with intended future 4G expansion on band 28. I don't know how true it is but I recall seeing it mentioned a few times here.

Personally I haven't found the lack of Band 28 to be terrible, but I've been having terrible reception at home over the past year. Was kinda hoping band 28 might improve the situation a little bit.

      Haha nice one!

      • Fair enough you've had your RN2 for a couple of years now but you'll probably remember talk of B28 expansion back then as well … it'll either never happen or you'll have to be a cotton farmer to benefit. Get your new phone and be that annoying bastard that can't stop talking about it or pulling it out for no apparent reason for a couple of weeks until the novelty wears off … it's time, you only live once.

  • One warning I never got when I bought my Xiaomi - If your company uses MDM to secure phones, it wont work with Xiaomi. Xiaomi is blacklisted from Airwatch and Good. This means no company email sync for companies that use Airwatch/Good.

    • Are they really blacklisted from Good? Source please.

The Xiaomi Mi4, fo example, is a certified supported device for Good:
      https://community.blackberry.com/docs/DOC-7822

Upon saying that, I've not been able to get my RN2 to work with Good. I was told by Good support that it's because it's rooted, but from the look of the stack trace from the crash I wasn't convinced that was the reason.

  • One advantage of buying direct is there should be less risk of malware/adware loaded on the device which some resellers have been reported to have done (though I suspect Xiaomi locking bootloaders has cut down on this practice).

  • I stock up on Xiaomi stuff whenever I'm in Jakarta at their concept store.
Main benefit is not having to worry about knock offs.
