Australia Post "Untracked" Labels - How do they work?

I found a roll of Australia Post "Untracked" Post labels and was curious how they work. The labels have a qr code, a number and another number that peels off. Does anyone know how they work? Are they linked to the business that orders them somehow and then Australia Post charges them each time one is used? Or not for anything?

Or does each package have to be activated on a site, and then paid for. Or would these labels be fully paid for, for regular untracked mail within Australia?

Just curious as I would not want to attempt to use any as they likely won't work, or could be considered a type of fraud since I did not purchase them.

Looks like this label. http://photobucket.com/gallery/user/2005ormond/media/cGF0aDo…

    "found" haha

    • Yes, with a bunch of office stuff thrown out. Business was closing. I don't want to go using them if they either don't work or someones going to be charged by some automatic number on them as it would be fraud.

    • Thanks, im not sure they are talking about the same labels but it could be they are old and for an obsolete post service. I just want to know if they are already paid for and ok to use as I dont want someone to be charged for them or them to not work. Curious as ive never seen these labels before.

  • I wouldn't think they have postage paid on them because they don't say postage paid or prepaid.

    Parcel Post Untracked
The Parcel Post Untracked labels are to assist in the sortation of parcels only and cannot be used to track the progress of a parcel throughout its delivery journey.
Australia Post has made a significant investment in automating our Parcels network to improve our capacity, processing speeds and sorting capability. As a result of this investment it will now be more costly for Australia Post to accept and process unbarcoded parcels as additional manual processes are required to sort and process these parcels.

These parcel labels are mostly obsolete. The shop I used to work in still uses them, but it's mostly for easier sorting and scanning of the items as when they are first packed they get scanned into our system (to keep track of what is sent) and then when i cart them to the post office, they scan it into their system and then fill out the prepaid contract book.

The labels themselves are to provide additional data. They are not prepaid labels… these don't exist.

    • Thanks, So the post service is post paid and these are just rubbish? I just wanted to confirm before I threw them out. :)

      • You buy prepaid satchels for pre-paid post. For prepaid options, on the side of every satchel is a pre-allocated tracking number. You can scan those into your smartphone app (AusPost) and you can track your stuff that way.

and you buy ordinary boxes or normal satchels if you want your postage to be calculated depending on distance, volumetric weight and stuff. Once calculated, you pay at the counter and they give you an Article ID.

This article ID. printed on your receipt, doubles as your tracking number.

        • I know that, I am talking about these labels I have. If they are ones that bill an account once scanned, or have to be activated in some kind of system then obviously they will not work, or if they have been prepaid already by a business buying in bulk. Never seen these particular labels before.
