Personal Trainer Fees and Charges

Bumped into a PT at the gym, he setup a get to know you session. I want to go prepared so would like to hear your feedback, the norms in PT industry.

What's the usual rate per session (1 hour)? I understand that this can vary depending on the gym, location, etc.

Is it usually pay as you go without commitments? Any sort of minimum start up sessions, number of sessions per week, etc.?

Is it a simple flat rate fee? Do they charge extra for value added services such as nutrients, progress tracking, etc?

Negotiate your own terms and conditions and put it in writing. Unless the trainer actually works for a gym, as opposed to freelance.

Usually pay per session upfront with a regular schedule at around $80/hour.

  • Also depends on what cert level they are

  • unless you want to pay someone to look at their phone the whole time and pretend theyre interested in your health and wellbeing, go right ahead

    • Most people just pay for the motivation…

  • I wouldn't bother with a PT, unless they are exceptionally fit themselves. Most PT's do not look very fit. Sure they can teach you how to use a few machines and do a few free weight exercises, but all that information is online for free. What do you hope to get from a PT?

  • Just sign up for F45, every class is like a PT session (group training though) and weekly price is less than one $80 PT sesssion.

Similar to above, join a decent gym and the staff will usually assist you where required. My gym staff showed me how to use each machine, sat down with me and put together a plan to meet my goals (mix of Cardio, free weights and machines), they watch people in the gym and if you have poor technique will come over and ask if they want help. The only time I would consider a PT is if you have zero motivation and need someone to push you until you build a routine.

  • I was looking at actual fees as well as i just got certified and would like to start working as PT

  • Whoa..It really depends on who you are getting PT from. If he's a famous and well known, it would go up like $150/hour, but normally $50/hour is the average. But if the fee is more than you expected, you can also take the PT with one more person. That way your cost would be almost half of the original price.
