Please Help. Which Laptop to Buy? Really Confused (Budget $1600)

Hi,

I am from India and I'm coming to Australia in a few days. I would like to buy an 15" laptop. I am looking for something which does not have the ULV processors i.e. processors such as 7200U, 7500U (any processor with the letter U at the end). I think 7300HQ is the best processor for me. 7700HQ is an overkill but that's fine too. Graphic card is not important to me at all.

Budget is around $1500-$1600. I can stretch it if needed.

I want a beautiful screen (to watch HD movies) and a really good battery life since I will be using this laptop in my college. I think 1080p would be perfect as 4K screens usually use up more battery. Any laptop with battery more than 70Wh would be great.

I've searched a lot! XPS 15 seems to be my only bet till now but it's really expensive (around $2100 for the lowest spec). Dell 7567 is also great but it's quite bulky (2.6kgs).

Any suggestions? You guys are the pros when it comes to deals!

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Since I'm a student, student discounts (if any) will apply! :)

    • This seems like a really solid option, but I saw somewhere that it has a poor build quality, it overheats while gaming and most importantly, it has a bad/average battery life. So I decided to skip this one. Please let me know if I am wrong,

You're saying graphics card isn't important, yet mention temperature during gaming?

You need to work out what you really want from a laptop.

There's an XPS 15 here for $1509. Get in quickly! i7-6700HQ, 960M, 512gb SSD, 4K screen, 84whr battery. Awesome spec and chassis for the price, and is "as new". It's last gen but not much of any consequence has changed, just some of the hardware updated.

    • Thanks! It looks great! How to order it? There's no add to cart button. :(

      • You have to online chat during business hours, up the top of that page

        • Ah. Got it. I tried talking to them. They are saying that $1509 ones are out of stock. Exact same specifications are available for $1959 now. I asked them why is there such a huge difference in price? They told me that $1509 systems were older.

Is it advisable to wait for older systems to come again? Or get the $1959 one? I can wait if needed. I'm not in a rush. Also, any drawback in getting the old system vs the new one? Like, $1509 vs $1959.

Lenovo X1 Carbon. Don't buy the XPS, I bought a top of the line XPS 15 and returned it - very unhappy with it, terrible keyboard and it had some quality control issues, just did not feel like a 3k laptop at all. Very happy with X1 Carbon.. light, excellent keyboard, nice FHD IPS screen. It is the 6300U processor, but more than ample for my needs. I use it for photo editing, Word, browsing etc.

    • Wow. Really? Maybe a faulty unit? Or do you think the whole line up is faulty?

I'm confused now. Xps obviously has much better specs for the money but Lenovo seems to be a safer bet according to your comment. Also, very little hdd space in Lenovo :(

Btw, any awesome deals on Lenovo X1 Carbon?
