Crap card? It gets reviewed rather well, typically 4/5 stars or more. What is wrong with it?

      • I think he is talking about gigabyte brand and the fan issues they have.

        • Possibly, but that particular card got reviewed well enough. So I'm unsure.

        • really share info please

    • +1

How about linking to a store that actually has it in stock?

    • what a crap comment for a card which it is not in stock (y)

    • hey at least it's not MSI

Whoa… the price hike is insane.

Crypto currency is really making the prices of AMD video cards go up. This is a terrible time to buy a video card…

    • Check 1060/1070 prices. Not just AMD.

      • Yeap. Noticed all the shops selling the 1060 for less than $360 are mostly sold out.

Only ones that remain are $400+ cards, sometimes reaching 499.

        • +1

If you have a 1070 and want to sell it now is the time. I just sold mine on eBay for 700 in one night.

I'd list it at 799 and let buyers make offers. Mention ethereum and cryptocurrency mining in the title/subtitle.

        • @Diji1:
MMM sell, buy 1080ti and a 4k display.
          winner

        • @Diji1:

Which is dumb at that price anyway. At over $700 for a 1070 you're better off getting a 1080TI. Sure, longer ROI but good profit/watt and way better resale.

        • @Diji1:

          I have a 1070
Can you explain im a bit out of the loop

        • @GossipGoat:

GPUs like the RX570/580s and 1060/1070s are in demand to mine cryptocurrency (ie. you might have heard of Bitcoin. This is not for Bitcoin directly. It's for Ethereum and other cryptos). At the moment is is quite profitable, though it could (and will) fluctuate a lot. You would be able to sell your 1070 for a profit for at least the next month or so, as there is a GPU shortage. The AMD cards are unavailable globally virtually everywhere for the next 3-4 weeks, and have been for the past few weeks already.

        • @Diji1: Curious if you wouldn't mind linking to your sale? Edit: Nevermind think I found it. EVGA superclocked right?

Got 2x 1070's in SLI but wouldn't mind going to a single 1080ti.

Had a bit of a look and seems anything up to about a fortnight ago was going for significantly less, but more recent sales are around the $700 mark.

        • @MissKitty: But why would anyone buy a 1070 when its in the price realm of 1080s? wouldnt those be better for mining

        • +1

          @GossipGoat:

1080s have different RAM. They are less efficient for mining per watt. 1080TIs are good. They have the same type of RAM as the 1070s.

        • @GossipGoat: I'm guessing for mining they are much more power efficient, so therefore preferred over a 1080.

A terrible time to build a PC in general i reckon. Ram prices are on the rise until at least the end of 2018.

I was thinking of upgrading my aging ivy bridge processor, but with the recent ram prices i might hold off a while longer. I can see myself putting up with it for a few more years.

  • Erm… I know it's not the same, but price isn't exactly stellar.

Not in stock. "Order In" doesn't count considering these are sold out everywhere.

      • Fair enough.

    • Order-In - This product is not carried in stock and will need to be 'ordered-in' for you

      • MissKitty said that.

        • +1

          when I posted I saw = )

        • Fair enough.

  • Hah, I got the Rx 480 for $300 (G1 Gaming) a few months ago. With how expensive graphics cards are now, I could sell it and upgrade the rest of my PC.

    • +1

I am now even more regret selling my ASUS strix rx480 8GB for about $300 few months ago.

      • how much would I be looking at if I were to sell my gigabyte 1060 that I bought for $360 last year ?

        • 3gb or 6gb

      • same almost got a rx 480 8gb but cos of $$$ got a 1060 3gb, could of sold the rx480 and almost got a 1080 :/

        • 3gb , I paid $339 actually.

        • @Ryxxi:

about $370 to $400, but might go up even more, the 6gb models are selling for a lot more.

  • @Diji1:
Funny that people on eBay pay $700+ for a used card when there have been deals for ~650 for 1080s.
Even my local PC store has a 1080 for under 700

    https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Graphics-Cards/NVIDIA/68…

    • that's a 1070 in ur link lol

      • Sorry meant to say 1070

If your after a good deal on a 1060 or 1070 look at the old Harvey, both have Free Delivery

    MSI 1060 3gb $376

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/computers-tablets/computers/g…

    MSI 1070 8gb $626

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/computers-tablets/computers/g…

    • I paid $675 with eBay code for the 1080 version. But it's not a bad buy considering how hard it can be to get a decent graphic card atn.

      • True, i think the value is in the 1060 3gb, the same card is selling at pccasegear for $469!

edit and its not even in stock anymore…

  • $389 on the MSY parts price list?

    • Not in stock though :)

Have a read of the comments in the thread and you might get a better idea

  • I'm just waiting until those mining specific cards come out like these ones from Asus and Sapphire. Apparently these use less power and are more optimised for mining like producing more Hashes then the equivalent Gaming GPU.

Hopefully this will drive down the prices of normal GPUs (that are made for gaming) back down and in stock for all gamers and also so I can finally upgrade.

    • When the mining craze is over, how do you sell them to someone? If the can be used in crossfire it would be okay.

      • It'll end?

      • I dont think you can use them for gaming…

They have little/no video output - no hdmi, displayport etc

Just basically for mining - running them 24/7. I guess they're like the "pro cards" (FirePro/Quadro) in a way without the special bits that make them capable of doing whatever they do. So from my understanding for example 1060/1070 won't be branded Geforce as that entitles it as a gaming card.

I dont see why anyone would buy a graphics card for gaming aftewards that been used 24/7 for mining - they will be on life support.

We'll see what happens. I'm just hoping it drives down prices.

        • Mining cards are generally underclocked and undervolted to save on power and heat - so often they will not have been taxed as heavily as a card that may just be used for gaming sessions.

Fan bearings might be an issue, but other than that.. plus fans can be replaceable anyways

        • @klownz: I think they've listed the fans in mining cards have excellent bearings in them.

    • +1

They've been tested already, 24Mh/s or so, aren't much cheaper, no resell value. Advice is pick up the normal cards when you can.

      • well that's disappointing for us all :(

  • +2

Would be so unlucky if your graphics card died right now lol!

    • Out of stock, read above comments
