Kawasaki Ninja 650 Vs Versys 650 LAMS

Which model would be a better buy. From what I have heard, the versys is an all rounder but the latest ninja 650 has better performance and features. I did go to my local Kawasaki dealer but they didn't have the new ninja 650 in stock or the versys. However they did have the 2016 ninja at a cheap price of $7450. Any inputs from ozbargainers who have ridden them will be much appreciated

What're you actually looking for/to do? First bike? Cheap commuter? Etc.

They're based on the same platform just setup differently as the naked Er6nl, (iirc) faired "ninja" and adventurey versys.

They're marketed as a ninja but all the other ninja bikes are inline 4s not parallel twins.

While they're not bad bikes, they're easy to outgrow and don't seem to hold value very well. Kinda like the Groms, great in theory but the novelty wears off quickly.

    • Thanks. I have a Suzuki inazuma 250 which has been an excellent commuter for the past two years but currently looking to upgrade for an LAMS bike in the 600-650 segment and something faired which will be great for the highways. I thought an LAMS bike would hold much value than the full powered models as it is in demand with the new riders. I did try selling it but there is very less demand as the ninja, cbr and R3 has better value and features than the inazuma. The only other model, I am keen on trying would be the cbr650f which is an in line four

Not sure about the new ninjas but I cut my teeth on the early models and theyre not very comfy to ride. Power and agility are defiantly up there though.
I would really recommend the new Yamaha mt07
Imho an amazing bike and is lams.

  • I have seen an Mt 07 in person but I have feeling that it would look too small on me as I am a 110+kg rider but it still is a great option. I might give it a try. Thanks

  • Fair enough, are you 100% on LAMS and brand new? Because by the sounds of it a bit of extra grunt wouldn't go astray and you'd probably pick up a decent non lams 600 or 750 with low ks for 5ish k.

But you seem to know what you want so test ride a few and then really bargain hard, like gyms people arent rushing to buy bikes in the winter months so use that to your advantage, as some dealerships have leader board type setups try to buy early in the nontm as I've found salespeople will sometimes go that little bit extrabto get on the board first.
Also you might find your bike will be easier to sell when it warms up a bit.
