I am looking for an easy no fuss point click option to convert VOB files (backup dvds) to video files to play on my Ps3 and Tvix 2300 media player (doesnt do MKV).
Number one priority is to keep the 5.1 audio
Number two priority must be able to convert into all types of video formats including MKV
So is DVDfab the best bargain for what I want ?

yeah I read about that one as well but I think it takes a while to convert high quality.
also couple diffrent forums mentioned they picked up viruses from the downloaded program.
Does it do fast conversion for you ?
Hmm I haven't heard about viruses, perhaps upload it to virustotal before installing it.
I think speed is pretty much the same across the board, just depends on your processor. I haven't tested it with large high quality files though.
There are probably some other free convertors aroudn too.
SUPER(C) http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html is free and converts pretty much anything to anything, though I haven't used it to do exactly what you want. It supports 5.1 if you set the audio container to something that supports 5.1 (AAC etc). Can convert VOB to any sort of mkv/avi/mov etc.
