32 GB MicroSD card

Hey all,

Like many others I am really excited about the new HTC Desire HD which has just been announced. The phone only has 1.5gb of internal memory so I am looking to maximise the use of the MicroSD slot which can take up to 32GB.

I'm not too fussed about brands, although I obviously want it to be reliable. Does anyone know if there is much variation in speed between the generic and branded versions?

A quick search on static ice shows the lowest priced one is $146 from apus.com.au (NSW), I haven't looked into postage costs yet though they shouldn't be too high for something so small!

If it makes any difference I am in Malvern East in Melbourne.

hmmm seems to be quite a price hike between 16GB and 32GB

you can buy a 16GB microSD for ~$50 at MSY

Apus seems to be the best price at the moment.

Are you sure you need something that big?

As Davo says you can get a 16GB MicroSD for $50

If you want to purchase online and not have to line up, try MyMemory.co.uk. Remember its also free shipping, so it beats having to buy from ShoppingSquare or APUS.

A class 2 Kingston 16GB or Sandisk card costs $49 AUD (Using Google currency conversion, note the rates on Paypal are noticeably worse)

    A class 2 Sandisk 32GB card costs $147 AUD

And you sure 16GB isn't enough? What do you store on your phone anyway…lots and lots BluRay grade movies?

    It's so expensive.

  • Hey guys,

Thanks for the responses! I guess if there is such a big price difference between the two sizes I will hold off on buying a 32gb. I'm pretty sure I've read that the phone comes with an 8gb card in the package so I will try to see how that goes. The phone has 1.5gb built in so 9.5gb may be enough.

The storage is mainly going to be for music and apps. Though as the phone comes with an 8mp camera and 720p recording I'm sure I can / will quickly fill up the memory. I guess one of the added advantages of having removable storage that is so small is that you can always carry around more memory with you (ie leave some in the car / desk drawer etc).
