  • thanks, just got one. been meaning to try out one of these for ages. hopefully it will play nice with the cat

    • These things kill cats.

Ah well, he's getting near 20, so he has had a good life.

        • +3

You have a good attitude, always look on the bright side.

  • Good find Op

  • +15

I'm so tempted to jump on this, but my money is still tied up with the Roboguy deal. I've just started a PayPal dispute for a refund, but not sure if that will come through and I don't want to end up with 2 robot vacuums.. Although the prospect of robot battle is entertaining

    • +6

Nothing to worry about. In the unlikely event that PayPal doesn't stand on your side, just return the vacuum back to Roboguy under his own 30 day return period and claim shipping cost from PayPal.

    • +1

Has the roboguy deal fallen through? I thought we were meant to be getting our bots this week?

      • +7

Check the comments on the original post from may, seems another month wait due to delays with supplier. The deal will likely arrive, but lack of communication, longer delays and how roboguy has handled things so far are disappointing and enough reason for me to pull out.

        • +4

Yes thank you - I just found it and was trying to edit my comment.

For anyone else wondering - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/4812102/redir

Basically… might be here in another 4 weeks now, can't offer refunds any more, people are cross, you wont be notified about any developments unless you happen to browse 6 week old expired mothers day deals.

        • +1

          @BaryGusey:

          can't offer refunds any more

If it's not delivered within the eBay estimated delivery date then the seller is leaving himself wide open to "Goods Not Received" claims, which he would lose.

might be here in another 4 weeks now

Anyone who waits that long is only screwing themselves over as a month would probably mean you are no longer eligible under the eBay Guarantee.

        • That sounds like a mature reason to pull out.

        • +1

@Scab: It's not ebay, I am not sure what the options were but I used paypal (with a credit card)and I think that was 180 days. In any case I'll be checking it all out next week. He seemed genuine to me and I feel like he's had a few things go wrong that were beyond his control. Not telling people their deliveries might come over a month later is within his control though. That's the bit I'm annoyed about. Plus I paid extra for fast delivery!

        • +2

          @BaryGusey:

Problem is also warranty as it's from the sale date.

Regardless of all that, he really shouldn't be telling people he can't offer refunds and forcing them to wait.

If someone wants to wait, sure, but if it were me and he said no refunds I'd do a claim or chargeback.

Not telling people their deliveries might come over a month later is within his control though. That's the bit I'm annoyed about.

That and saying he can't do refunds, you don't do that to your customers because of a supplier issue.

        • +1

@Scab: what's ebay got to do with the roboguy deal?

        • @wolfshooter:

Nothing, I misread and thought it was this eBay seller.

      • +2

Oh boy you're in for a treat. Go back and read the deal post.
I think the reason why he didn't email us and decided to post on ozb was in hope people forgot like you and myself; and by the time we realised it's more than what was originally said. .

        • Tops!

I feel for the guy so wont be pulling out just yet but I do sort of wish I'd bought elsewhere now. Glad I didn't double down with a laptop though!

      • +15

There are so many red flags about that deal.

Business was registered only 5 days before posting the deal

So I comment asking why the seller has a misleading "original" price of $576 on the item page, he responds with this:

We have actually been selling Xiaomi products for over six months now and the $576 was the listed price that we were selling the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Cleaner for prior to this sale.

When I respond asking specifically why his business had only been registered for 5 days, he doesn't reply.

Failure to disclose a complete lack of stock, yet charging $5 for "priority"

As this is a group deal we will be bringing in a large number of robot vacuum cleaners from China. You should receive your robotic vacuum cleaner within 30 Business Days.

This was not detailed anywhere in the original description and buyers paying for priority would have reasonably assumed that their vacuum was in stock and ready to be shipped.

Seller originally quoted "30 Business Days" on 9 May, yet later changed his mind

On 11 June, the seller comes along with this:

Also, the 30 Business Days commenced after the group deal ended.

What a joke! The seller seems to be making up his terms as he goes.

The seller is now saying he will not accept refunds

Because we have already processed and paid the supplier for the products that you have ordered, we are now unable to issue any refunds as per our terms and conditions

Please be aware that this practice is illegal under Australian Consumer Law. In the case of a major failure, buyers are entitled to a refund.

Further, under ACL regarding non-delivery of products & services:

When a business accepts your payment for products or services they must supply them to you within the timeframe they have indicated or if no time was specified, within a reasonable time.

The seller is trying to enforce a "30 Day delay period" to be eligible for a refund:

The 26th of June is when the 30 Business Day delivery period ends. The 30 Day delay period would not commence until after the 30 Business Day delivery period has ended and thus the 30 Day delay period would start on the 27th of June. The 30 Day Delay period would not end until the 26th of July.

Absolute rubbish and not in line with ACL.

        Customer service has been appaling

You can read the latest comments on the deal and judge for yourself.

It's obvious that this seller is grossly incompetent and any kind of after-sales support will be abysmal or non-existent. The "1 Year Australian Warranty" will be a nightmare if you need it. I'd be filing a PayPal dispute and taking my business elsewhere if I were you. You'll probably get the vacuum faster that was as well.

        • Look at the address - the website. It all looks off. I'd bet on it being a scam, although I am not 100%.

However, it is enough for me to completely avoid them.

        • +1

          @rorymeister:

I don't think it's a scam but a very poorly run operation with no sense of accountability. For all we know he could be getting scammed by his supplier. He didn't even have a clue on where the shipment was for a month so i doubt he will even know what hit him when the shipment doesn't even turn up and the supplier vanishes.

  • +2

It's a great vaccum cleaner. I also recommend getting virtual wall tape.

  • Trigger Pulled! Hopefully the App works well in English…

    • +5

I got one from the last shopping square deal and it works great, Ive got the english app and added the english voice pack via the app so when the vaccuum starts up the voice alerts are in english coming from the vacuums speaker.

      • Are both the Android and iOS apps now in English?

  • +2

Mine (in my parents' home in Shanghai) got broke after only half a months.
Swapped a new one. Broke again after less than 2 months.

I don't know if Xiaomi would supply better quality products to overseas market but I would not buy any products from Xiaomi.

I'd rather wait on the 20% off deal in Bing Lee ebay and buy a Dyson V6 absolute.

    • +1

Could've just been unlucky, or they could be keeping the price down by using the bare minimum of materials.

They are certainly much cheaper than the "genuine item".
      https://www.shopirobot.com.au/roomba650-irobot-robot-vaccum-…

However, I've had quite good experience with other products made by Xiaomi. If you're looking for a lower cost product, models like these and perhaps the ones sold once a year by Aldi (60 day return period certainly entices with that one) are really the only choice.

It'd be nice if the new Dyson robo-vacs were sold in Australia to validate the market a bit more.

At least using a conventional vacuum cleaner manually warms you up in the winter!

      • +2

The low price has more to do with their business model than poor quality components. Companies like dyson have ridiculous markups which they justify as being the cost of innovation.

Also the 650 you linked is a lower end roomba with fewer features than this. The comparable model is around $1300.

There's a good comparison video somewhere between this the roomba and dyson with no clear winner in terms of functionality so the lower price of this is really a great selling point.

From my experience it works very well and consumables and spare parts are very cheap and readily available on aliexpress. Good buy imo.

    • What was the issue with your one? I've seen a couple throwing LDS error on youtube.

    • I've had mine since march. Haven't had any problems with mine.

    • Had mine working daily since early this year; the apps says it had clean a total of 172 times with 4369 mins, 2807 sqm. so far so good.

  • Good deal op.

Already got one for ground floor. Bought another one for my second floor.

    • Are you getting on for the garage?

      • he got one on order for the doggy kenel. scruffyscruffy be living it up.

        • I'm getting one for the car.

  • +7

PURCHASED! im so glad i waited instead of jumping the gun with the roboguy groupbuy.

  • Are these any good? I borrowed another type of robot vacuum from a friend, and it didnt do too well tbh, how does it go with obstacles like chair legs, coffee tables etc etc?

    • I found the whole idea to be a bit silly. Takes 20 minutes to do a lounge room I could do in maybe 3 minutes. And my coverage would be near 95% and these t hings miss so many spots. I understand they're for people who don't have time or can't be bothered to, but I can't see the benefit in spending on this, leaving it on for hours, only to be left with a pretty average job.

*My experience is based on a different model which I retired soon after purchase.

      • +3

I wouldn't recommend providing feedback based on an experience with a different product. Pretty silly really. There's some really average models out there (i.e crap $99 from Godfreys or similar from Aldi). Also the entire point of this is to run the vacuum when your out so it doesn't really matter if it takes a little longer (mine does the entire 120m house in 90 mins) and you can run it 2-3 times a week or more. It's a real time saver for many people who have other things to do.

        • I run mine every night at 1am. Best money spent. I got 2, one for upstairs and one for downstairs.

    • +7

Goes around chair legs no problem. Spins around each one.

I think the robot is fantastic - while it does take forever (takes nearly 2 hours to do what I can do in 20 minutes), it means we can do other things while it is vacuuming, or set it going while I'm at work. The main thing is we tend to run it more often than I would do myself & I just use the manual vacuum for spot cleans & a few places the robot can't reach. Vacuuming is so boring that I'm happy to let the robot do it!

Pic of our living/kitchen area: the circles are it going around chair legs. There are more chairs, but I put some of them on the table, just to get a better result.

  • Had one of these for a few weeks now, and really loving it. The app is fantastic, and battery life is outstanding compared to my old Neato. A couple of downsides I've found so far: the brush is actually deceptively small, and does not span the entire width of the robot (though the side brush somewhat mitigates this by sweeping things into the main brushes path, but that can only do so much), and that it's a little too sensitive with rugs. It sometimes detects a rug as an obstacle and just goes around it, and sometimes it climbs right onto it with no issues (hopefully a software patch could fix this).

  • +2

I pulled the trigger on this an ordered a good ol' Mi Suck

    • I got mine! It's pretty good.. It's going around now.. Fires anyone know where to get bargains on the virtual wall tape??

  • damn - bought one for 380ish from shopping square - shoulda waited.

  • You can configure this to work through Apple HomeKit / Homebridge :-)

    • Oh really? Excellent!

      Any tips for young players?

      • +1

Use the TURBO mode for maximum suction. Obviously it drains the battery quicker but (in my case) I can do the entire house on one charge anyway. Also if you're running it while at work, it really doesn't matter. It will come back, recharge and complete the job. I noticed that my battery got better after a couple of uses too. Now I can get approx 110mins on one charge (turbo)

        • I was actually referring to tips regarding adding it to HomeKit.

But thank you all the same!

        • +1

          @mpratty10:

Sorry I meant to say 'MAX' mode, not Turbo. Anyway it's pretty intuitive.

      • +1

There are heaps of tutorials online but because there so many variables when it comes to Raspberry Pi hardware, it can be pretty unreliable unless you are super tech savvy. I ended up using my Synology NAS with an app called Docker. It hasn't missed a beat and I can control $12 smart power points, Xbox, Samsung TV etc. Check out this link to see what's supported- https://www.npmjs.com/browse/keyword/homebridge-plugin

  • Thanks OP, great deal, got the vac and accessories

    • What accessories did you get?

      • See link in OP

  • How does this one go with animal hair?

  • Had one for a week now and very happy with it. I only have hard floors. It maps out the whole house and seems to have quite intelligent programming. It's very determined and if it gets stuck it backs up and gets itself out. I haven't had a single issue. I programmed it to vacuum every day when everyone's out. It speaks English and app even tells you when it's finished the job. Took it upstairs and it didn't fall down the stairs, and returned to the same spot when it finished. Takes about 2 hours to clean the house. Can highly recommend it.

    • yes

  • Thanks, just ordered one it should work well with my hardwood floors, and see what can be done with home automation.

  • +2

Ordered at 10:30. "Sent notification" received at 13:10, tracking from Austpost arrived 10min later. Hopefully will get it this week vs the longer delivery timing from shopping square.

    • +3

Could reach roboscam a thing or two

  • can claim TRS for this?

    • Only if you get a GST invoice from seller. Also are you going to carry a large box out then bring it back?

  • Is it just me or is the CRACKER code not working? I kept getting this message: "This code can't be applied to your order."

    • Nevermind, it works now!

  • +2

Just ordered one, wasn't even in the market for one.. this site just made me want one for some reason lol

    • Won't regret it, one of the best impulse buys I did.

I schedule it to clean daily while im at work, can even check the status on the app through internet.

      • What if your house has an alarm system? How will that work? Wouldn't that trigger off the sensors?

        • +2

Don't worry, the vacuum will scare them off.

        • Not sure, it's quite low to the ground. One way to find out

      • Wow I didn't know you can keep on eye on it via the app. I must buy this next time.

    • I did the same thing..

      • It's going to end up being your favorite 'toy'.

  • Anyone know how often you need to change out the consumables?

    • Compared to Dyson, Roomba etc the consumables are cheap! I bought a 2+2+1 pack from aliexpress for around USD18.

      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Xiaomi-Robot-Vacuum-Cleaner-…

      • Hi, have you received the parts from that seller yet?

        • +1

Ordered and received a while back. Took approx 2-3 weeks from memory

        • @gimme:

Parts look the same as the originals?

        • +1

          @kacak:

yeah why? did you have a bad experience?

        • @gimme:
Oh just that I don't have much experience buying from Ali, and wanted some feedback on a specific seller before proceeding.

Thanks for your inputs, much appreciated 😀

  • +1

    Filter - 150 hours
    Side brush - 200 hours
    Main brush - 300 hours

Those are the ones recommend by the app, but you can use it a bit longer than that.

Edit: You can get extra hours from the filter by blowing the dust off with an air gun. I do this with my air purifier and it works to a certain extent.

    • Thanks for confirming. I guess I won't have to rush and order an accessory kit at the same time.

  • +1

Woot! my new best friend has arrived.

NOTE: mine came with a Chinese 2 pin plug. The plug and cord is separate from the base station and luckily I had an spare aus style plug and cord ( was from a camera battery charger - the type of cord is this I think - "IEC-C7 Power Cord"). It fit no problems and 'steve' is charging as we speak. Although I downloaded the female voice pack so that is going to cause some confusion in the house.

    • +1

Great, look forward to getting mine this week.

Is this thread now going to turn into a name your robot competition 😀

      • If roboguy finally delivers mine might name my vacuum as it can connect to wifi.

    • Report back after you've used it….or you haven't had to do anything.

      • +1

Had a play with it today. All looks pretty good. Didn't clean the whole house, but just a few rooms. Its pretty impressive, very happy with the purchase.

Pretty much lives up to the hype for me. I didn't expect it to clean everything (down side of bed, etc), but does a great job of the main areas.

Going to let it do the full house tomorrow. Didn't want to wear it out on its first appearance.

  • Mine arrived today and pretty impressed. Came from a lg roboking and this is pretty good.. a lot more features such as the mapping and clean modes and etc

  • Hello everyone,

Thanks for giving my finding lots of positive. Got my robot and very happy with it. There are some minor issues after with its cleaning and I managed to fix it.

    Issues:
    1. Does not vacuum black carpet.
    2. Trouble to climb from tiles to high carpet.

    Solution:
Temporary: When placing the robot upside down, we will notice 4 sensors near front edge of the robot. Cut out the white side of any tissue box just lightly larger than the sensors and use sticky tape to stick over it (Do not cover larger than inner edge).

Future solution: An addition feature on the app to disable those 4 sensors.

Hope this help for those having black carpet floors.

    • Strange.. why would black carpet be a problem? also what's the function of the sensors that you're covering? Surely they server a purpose.

Has it something to do with black being interpreted as 'off the floor' ?

      • +1

"the cliff detection sensors on the bottom of the vacuum will keep it from falling off ledges, like stairs or other changes in floor elevation."
According to the following page. So it should be a problem for 1 story house.

        https://www.androidheadlines.com/2017/01/review-xiaomi-mi-ro…

        • ah thanks for the info. it makes sense now. So black carpet = cliff according to our robot.

  • thanks for the post got mine on monday and loving it.

only issue im having is the timer ive set it up to clean every day but it doesnt seem to start at the time I set.

    anybody else having this issue?

    • Try doing a timezone sync on the app. It's in settings on the android app.

      • Thanks for the reply Gimme.

Im on ios and from what I can see in the settings there is no option for timezone sync unless your talking about country or locale which I have set to mainland china.

        • My Android MIHome app (v 4.1.38) has a 'Robot's timezone' category in the MAIN settings different from locale which I've set to mainland china as I have cameras that only work with that locale. Perhaps IOS is different.

        • @gimme: thanks again gimme yeah I cant find anything :(

        • +1

Well interestingly enough it started working the past week by itself but I was looking at the app last night and noticed I can see the timezone spot now

  • received mine and it's excellent!
    very happy with it

  • Bye Bye Roboguy!!! ordered one and received an email saying sent and should be with me on friday. Thats even faster than what Roboguy promised me he would do for me. $377.96 paid
